DEUT 27
15 Cursed be the man that maketh any graven or molten image, an abomination unto the Lord, the work of the hands of the craftsman, and putteth it in a secret place. And all the people shall answer and say, Amen.
WHERE ARE YOU HIDING YOUR IDOL?
Here the Israelites are about to enter the promised land and the Lord repeats the instructions of Exodus 20 which includes the prohibition against making any graven image.
Why did the Lord have to repeat himself?
Why does the Lord have to continually repeat himself to us?
Maybe it's because we don't get it!
Although we don't have images of silver and gold in our homes, we do have images that we set up in our hearts. And these images are just as real as the graven images that existed among the people of Israel.
Maybe you think that the computer or tv set isn't a graven image or idol, but it is! After all, someone had to put it together! Have you hidden your little idol away so that no one knows about it? Well, God knows exactly where you have placed the idols of your heart.
Matthew Henry makes these comments:
Sins against the second commandment. This flaming sword is set to keep that commandment first, Deuteronomy 27:15. Those are here cursed, not only that worship images, but that make them or keep them, if they be such (or like such) as idolaters used in the service of their gods. Whether it be a graven image or a molten image, it comes all to one, it is an abomination to the Lord, even though it be not set up in public, but in a secret place,--though it be not actually worshipped, nor is it said to be designed for worship, but reserved there with respect and a constant temptation. He that does this may perhaps escape punishment from men, but he cannot escape the curse of God.
Time to get rid of the idol or graven image in your life, before it takes over your life.
Remember, an idol may be anything that takes the place of God in your life. Keep God first. In your home. On your job. In every area of your life.
God bless you

9 Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him.
10 For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he Lisveth, he liveth unto God.
11 Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.
12 Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof.
13 Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.
14 For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.
DEAD OR ALIVE?
I hardly know where to start with these verses, they are so full of glorious truths.
Look at verse 9 -10. Christ has defeated sin; it has no power over Him. At Calvary, the power of sin was snuffed out, it had its back broken, sure it can walk around, but only in a crumpled state. It has no power over the Christian.
At the cross, Christ was fully yielded to the will of the Father and note this word in verse 11.. LIKEWISE. We have to reckon...we too are called to a life of obedience and sacrifice to the will of Him who gave us the most precious gift of all: Eternal life through His Son.
What is the mindset of someone who is surrendered to the will of the Father? It begins with our attitude towards sin. The surrendered Christian must reckon themselves dead to sin and alive to God through faith in Christ our Lord.
Let not sin reign in your mortal body...snuff it out at the earliest opportunity. How do you do this? By yielding yourself completely to God, that means giving up all rights to your life. You are God's vessel; you are God's instrument. He will now mould you into the image of his beloved Son.
This is what sanctification is all about...it is about dying to sin and living for God.
These verses are so awesome… What an amazing privilege God has given us to be called His children!
Say every day....
I AM DEAD TO SIN AND ALIVE UNTO GOD
God bless you
