PSALM 73

2 But as for me, my feet were almost gone; my steps had well-nigh slipped.

17 Until I went into the sanctuary of God; then understood I, their end.

18 Surely, thou didst set them in slippery places: thou castedst them down into destruction.

SEEING FROM THE SANCTUARY

I was once at the Keswick convention and there were two preachers that night, both preached from Psalm 73. The first one stressed the first part of this wonderful psalm, the second one stressed the second.

It truly depends from which angle you are looking at. The psalm in the first fifteen verses sees the wicked prosper and wonders why.

He describes what the wicked do, and how seemingly they get away with the it, evil abounds and abounds and no one can halt it.

The psalmist is weary about thinking about this, and in verse 16, he is weary of this, and then we get the word

UNTIL

His perspective is turned on its head, not just does he see the end of the wicked, but he sees the blessed state of all believers.

Look at verses 23-28, God guides him, God counsels him, he will be received into heaven. God is the deepest desire of his heart, his strength and his portion.

Evil men will come to destruction, we have to leave that to God and not focus on those things, but we need to be in God's sanctuary gazing at the Glory of the Lord and knowing that we are blood bought children of God.

This is to be our focus.. amen.

Until you go into God's house, you cannot have the proper perspective on life.

God bless you

INTIMACY WITH GOD

“And they heard the voice of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God amongst the trees of the garden. And the Lord God called unto Adam, and said unto him, where art thou? …Genesis 3:8-9.”

The call of God throughout the bible is one of Intimacy. God knew man had sinned but still, he wanted intimacy with his creation. God is not lonely, he doesn't need company but desires and wants it with his creation.

All of God's choicest saints in both the Old Testament and New Testament, had a deep and intimate relationship with God, Look at some of them and think how would:

Joseph have coped with betrayal and prison
Moses have coped with the children of Israel's complaining
David coped with the uprising of his own son
Daniel coped with the lion’s den

The reason is that they had a deep and intimate relationship with God. They didn't hide from God as Adam and Eve but ran to God (Read Jeremiah 33:3).

Men and women who sinned in the Old Testament did so because they lost that intimacy with God. Look at David, Moses, and others. They took their eyes off the Lord and fell headlong into sin and failure. As we go into the New Testament we see people like Peter failing because he lost that intimacy with God, for a short time.

It is not enough to go to church on Sunday. The Christian life is a deep, intimate relationship with God. As the Holy Spirit lives in you, your holiness will increase as He works in your heart.

Daily and minute by minute intimacy with God happens when you take everything to God in prayer. You can cast all your care upon him because He cares for you. God promises to come and have deep and intimate fellowship with those, who open the door of their lives. James 4:8 says, “Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. God is calling you and wanting to have a deep and intimate fellowship with you.

God bless you as you seek deeper intimacy with God,
