I was just reading a post about the rebuilding of a literal temple...and how that isn't going to happen. The temple being built is us...God's children, not one of stone. Contained in the article was the following quote from Wiki. I found it to be most interesting!

"In 363, Emperor Julian II, on his way to engage Persia, stopped at the ruins of the Second Temple in Jerusalem. In keeping with his effort to foster religions other than Christianity, Julian ordered the Temple rebuilt. Sozomen (c. 400–450) in his Historia Ecclesiastica wrote this about the effort as did a personal friend of his, Ammianus Marcellinus:

"Julian thought to rebuild at an extravagant expense the proud Temple once at Jerusalem, and committed this task to Alypius of Antioch. Alypius set vigorously to work, and was seconded by the governor of the province; when fearful balls of fire, breaking out near the foundations, continued their attacks, till the workmen, after repeated scorchings, could approach no more: and he gave up the attempt."

The failure to rebuild the Temple has been ascribed to the Galilee earthquake of 363, and to the Jews' ambivalence about the project. Sabotage is a possibility, as is an accidental fire. Divine intervention was the common view among Christian historians of the time.[11]"

You already know I do not believe in a future, literal and physical Temple. As you posted:

I say, Divine intervention. :yes

There's two ways to look at what Paul was saying about the son of perdition coming to sit in the temple of God in 2 Thess.2. Mostly Christians would interpret that temple to be in the spiritual sense. But to the non-believing Jew, they'd definitely interpret it as a physical literal temple in Jerusalem. So who was Apostle Paul specifically speaking those 2 Thess.2 events of deception about? Who especially is that "strong delusion" there meant for?

We know at the first part of 2 Thess.2, Paul was having to repeat to the Thessalonian Church the order of events of Christ's coming to gather His saints. It was because some among them had been spreading propaganda (in letters) that caused confusion. Based on Paul's rebuke of Judaizers in Galatians, it was most likely those.

Paul also refers to the event of the "vile person" in Dan.11-12, because of how Dan.10 & 12 mention the idea of the withholding. So the whole 2 Thess.2 is particularly about a false prophet that is to come, not just deceiving Christians that allow it, but especially non-believing Israel. And for non-believing Israel, the message would point to a physical temple requirement, which is what I believe Paul meant, especially since Rev.11:1-2 has a temple connection with the 42 months timing of the Gentiles treading its courts, and then another group that worships within the temple.

LOL, a good portion of your post just described the 3 1/2 year Jewish revolt against Rome. :D

For us Whirlwind we are the temple being built. There is scripture that supports the temple in Israel being rebuilt in the last days.

Hi Mdo. :wave

I don't doubt that at all...we are Israel, the temple, being rebuilt.

Antiochus Epiphanes also served as an example, but was back 170 B.C.
