Isaiah 54:1 "Sing, O barren, thou that didst not bear; break forth into singing, and cry aloud, thou that didst not travail with child: for more are the children of the desolate than the children of the married wife," saith the LORD.

  • We are the married wife...He is our husband so what is meant by that verse? Are we not to have children? Jesus too said.....

[list:1nh1lrmc]Luke 23:27-29 And there followed Him a great company of people, and of women, which also bewailed and lamented Him. But Jesus turning unto them said, "Daughters of Jerusalem, weep not for Me, but weep for yourselves, and for your children. For, behold, the days are coming, in the which they shall say, 'Blessed are the barren, and the wombs that never bare, and the paps which never gave suck.'

This is spiritual in meaning. Those having children in those verses are those (men and women) that fall into idolatry/adultery with Satan, the desolate one. Those that are blessed are those that remain true, (barren), and wait for His return. [/list:u:1nh1lrmc]

54:4-5 Fear not; for thou shalt not be ashamed: neither be thou confounded; for thou shalt not be put to shame: for thou shalt forget the shame of thy youth, and shalt not remember the reproach of thy widowhood any more. For thy Maker is thine husband; the LORD of hosts is His name; and thy Redeemer the Holy One of Israel; The God of the whole earth shall He be called.

  • We will not take part in the great apostasy by being confounded, confused, by his false religion of deception when he will pretend to be our husband...the true Savior.

54:6-8 For the LORD hath called thee as a woman forsaken and grieved in spirit, and a wife of youth, when thou wast refused," saith thy God. "For a small moment have I forsaken thee; but with great mercies will I gather thee. In a little wrath I hid My face from thee for a moment; but with everlasting kindness will I have mercy on thee," saith the LORD thy Redeemer.

  • There is a short span of time, five months, when the world will be tested. That "small moment" when His face is hidden from us. That time of wrath is the wrath of Satan...his great tribulation, his hour of temptation. God's elect will stand during that time and wait for Him.

54:9 "For this is as the waters of Noah unto Me: for as I have sworn that the waters of Noah should no more go over the earth; so have I sworn that I would not be wroth with thee, nor rebuke thee.

  • The five month period of Satan's great tribulation is "as the waters of Noah," for the waters of Noah lasted a five month period.....

[list:1nh1lrmc]Genesis 7:24 And the waters prevailed upon the earth an hundred and fifty days.

Those waters are from the mouth of Satan...a flood of lies, an overflowing scourge.

  • Isaiah 28:15 Because ye have said, We have made a covenant with death, and with hell are we at agreement; when the overflowing scourge shall pass through, it shall not come unto us: for we have made lies our refuge, and under falsehood have we hid ourselves:

Revelation 12:15 And the serpent cast out of his mouth water as a flood after the woman, that he might cause her to be carried away of the flood.
[/list:u:1nh1lrmc]

54:13-14 And all thy children shall be taught of the LORD; and great shall be the peace of thy children. In righteousness shalt thou be established: thou shalt be far from oppression; for thou shalt not fear: and from terror; for it shall not come near thee.

54:15-16 Behold, they shall surely gather together, but not by Me: Whosoever shall gather together against thee shall fall for thy sake. Behold, I have created the smith that bloweth the coals in the fire, and that bringeth forth an instrument for his work; and I have created the waster to destroy.

  • The waster was created to destroy those that don't remain barren, those that commit adultery/idolatry with Satan. They gather against us in the great spiritual battle....Armageddon.

Galatians gives an allegory of these two positions of thought...

  • Galatians 4:22-27
22 For it is written, that Abraham had two sons, the one by a bondmaid, the other by a freewoman.
23 But he who was of the bondwoman was born after the flesh; but he of the freewoman was by promise.
24 Which things are an allegory: for these are the two covenants; the one from the mount Sinai, which gendereth to bondage, which is Agar.
25 For this Agar is mount Sinai in Arabia, and answereth to Jerusalem which now is, and is in bondage with her children.
26 But Jerusalem which is above is free, which is the mother of us all.

27 For it is written, Rejoice, thou barren that bearest not; break forth and cry, thou that travailest not: for the desolate hath many more children than she which hath an husband.

28 Now we, brethren, as Isaac was, are the children of promise.
29 But as then he that was born after the flesh persecuted him that was born after the Spirit, even so it is now.
30 Nevertheless what saith the scripture? Cast out the bondwoman and her son: for the son of the bondwoman shall not be heir with the son of the freewoman.
31 So then, brethren, we are not children of the bondwoman, but of the free. KJV
These two positions of thought are two covenants. The covenant of Mt. Sinai (the Jerusalem that now is') claims to be 'married' but is in bondage. The Jerusalem which is above, is mother of us all and is FREE! However, the elect are not actually 'married' until the wedding supper takes place...until then they 'wait'.

  • Psalms 37:34
34 Wait on the LORD, and keep his way, and he shall exalt thee to inherit the land: when the wicked are cut off, thou shalt see it. KJV

    Isaiah 25:9
9 And it shall be said in that day, Lo, this is our God; we have waited for him, and he will save us: this is the LORD; we have waited for him, we will be glad and rejoice in his salvation. KJV

Matthew 25:5 While the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept. KJV

Spiritually....Armageddon....OK....I had not thought of Armageddon as a battle between the two covenants. The old covenant and the new covenant, but fits the allegory of the two women....and to think that Abraham was father to both of their sons! :chin

What do you understand as the difference in the "wife" and the "bride?" I have never really looked into it but I do believe there is a difference.

I see Armageddon as spiritual in nature. Gog appears to be a literal battle but Armageddon I believe is this ongoing battle for souls.

These verses in Rev give me to think they are the same, in regard to the marriage covenant.

  • Revelation 19:7-8
7 Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife [bride-NASU] hath made herself ready. KJV

    Revelation 21:2
2 And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven,
prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.
9 Come hither, I will shew thee the bride, the Lamb's wife. KJV

Apart from the marriage covenant, the difference between 'bride' and 'wife' is the 'bride' is NEW to the position of being 'wife' and having it's responsibilities and privileges. However...this conclusion is not based on any 'single' verse of scripture.

Similar here...Armageddon tries those who are following Christ but need to be more firm and decided in this direction, or they will 'fall away'...

Jacob met his spiritual 'Armageddon' when he fought the 'angel' the night before meeting his brother Esau in Gen 32:24,25. The disciples met their spiritual 'Armageddon' when they were scattered at Calvary, and Judas 'fell away' from Christ in the process.

  • John 16:32
32 Behold, the hour cometh, yea, is now come, that ye shall be scattered, every man to his own, and shall leave me alone: and yet I am not alone, because the Father is with me. KJV

Dearest Ret....you are among the very few that has agreed with me in seeing the "spiritual" aspect of Armageddon. All others still believe it to be a literal battle with weapons. Thank you for the verses. I agree, they point to individual Armageddons.

As mentioned earlier, Jacob met his spiritual 'Armageddon' when he fought the 'angel' the night before meeting his brother Esau in Gen 32:24,25. BUT...it gets better....a few verses later we see Jacob's NAME was changed to 'ISRAEL'...same with us, when/as we 'overcome ('prevail over') the wicked one' ' our name is changed TO >> ISRAEL!

  • Genesis 32:28
28 And he said, Thy name shall be called no more Jacob, but Israel:
for as a prince hast thou power with God and with men, and hast prevailed. KJV

Changing the name does not mean all our fleshly trials are over, rather the NAME is given us to understand the need for the tribulations ahead!

  • 1 John 2:13
13 I write unto you, fathers, because ye have known him that is from the beginning. I write unto you, young men, because ye have overcome the wicked one. I write unto you, little children, because ye have known the Father. KJV

Seems you started another thread based on 1 Jn 2:13 which I did not address, but will comment here. What happends to Jacob after his name is changed....as a 'FATHER' he comes to 'know him that is from the beginning'. Only those who enter in to this experience - KNOW and UNDERSTAND what it means to be a FATHER and it is the FATHER who suffers FOR the family, more than we children can possibly ever know in this life, but as we experience being FATHER we are given a 'taste' what it means for a FATHER, THE HEAVENLY FATHER to suffer for HIS family - US - you and me!

...... :amen

PS:Dearest WW...In Christ, we are very 'dear' to each other. My fleshly self isn't so 'dear'....
