Topic: Remember Martha and Mary okay?
Highlight:
As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what he said. But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!” “Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, but few things are needed—or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”
Our Lord does not want Mary to be worried about the food and hospitality more than the most important event which is the expository teaching of the word. Martha is a good woman and wants to display top notch hospitality to entertain the guest with a five star buffet. She must have been planning on this special day to entertain The Master with one of the best top class cuisine and give Jesus a long lasting memory. To do the whole thing she needs the help of Mary. But Mary seems to be someone with high taste for wisdom. She will be needing the wisdom for her life's journey. She was ready for wisdom and direction. She wants perception into how her journey in life and afterlife will play and she knew that only Jesus is the answer. Earlier than expected Jesus began to speak Mary was glued to her seat. Martha was calling and calling for Mary's support because she must have planned all the decoration and event before Jesus arrived so it made her worried that Mary might have sabotage her plan by sitting right there at Jesus feet. "Lord don't you care that my sister left me to do all the work by myself? Talk to her.
But Jesus understood that both things are good but the best is what Mary is doing and it will last forever with her but see what you Martha is doing is also good but they are temporal and have no life giving capabilities.
Lets dive into how many times we have left our praying and worship time, how many times we rush out of our house without praying, how many times we rush our meal without giving thanks, how many times we think we are okay pursuing our goals without seeking God's approval. Even in the church, how many times we sing and preach a sermon by leaving out valuable words of God. Let us remember Martha and Mary today.
So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal. 2 Corinthians 4:18
1 Thessalonians 5:17 says "Never stop Praying" and the next verse said "give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus."
Have small of Martha but have lots of Mary. In your anger do not sin": Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, Ephesians 4:26; Do not overindulge in so many things and forget the most important spiritual lifting things from the Lord. Remember that our Lord Himself testified that those lifting things can never be taken away from us. They become our heritage forever.
Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.
Prayer: Lord Jesus I remember Martha and Mary today. I submit my ambition at your feet. Give me the eternal heritage that will stay with me forever in Jesus name. Amen
