Resisting Temptation

A big part of being a Christian is resisting temptation, but a lot of Christians seem to have trouble accepting that.

Temptation will always surround us as Satan's only job is to try and steal our faith which is Christ Jesus. Some just do not understand the power and authority they have over these temptations as it's by Gods grace that we have already been made overcomers.

James 4:7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

Romans 8:37 Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.
Romans 8:38 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,
Romans 8:39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

I find that resisting temptation can be a struggle. Any suggestions?

Pray, pray, pray.

Is there someone you feel comfortable enough to turn to for help and support?

Most of the people around me seem to think it's okay to yield to temptation, church leaders included. It would be best if they were to turn to me, rather than me turn to them.

I struggle a bit, but I usually seem to win the battle. I was just curious because of the statement For_His_Glory made: "Some just do not understand the power and authority they have over these temptations as it's by Gods grace that we have already been made overcomers." I was wondering if there was some piece of knowledge that might be helpful if I find myself struggling with temptation.

If you are struggling with a certain type of temptation, take it to God. You don't need to be in the midst of that temptation before you reach out for help. If this is a continuing problem, attack it before it attacks you.

If there are things that you know of that prey upon your weaknesses, the Father also knows and there is no shame in admitting these things to Him. God will never allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able to bear. He will always provide an exit, should you choose to take it.

1 Corinthians 10
13 No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.

The Father asks us to lean on Him, so do that. Go to Him and confess that you don't have the strength to do this alone. I guarantee that if you go to Him with an open honest heart, He will lift you above those things that trouble you.

It's a struggle for all of us as Satan just loves to tempt us in so many areas of our lives. Here is the kicker.........we do not have to ever battle against Satan for Jesus has already won that battle for us. Every time you feel like you are being tempted just repeat in your mind "greater is He (Jesus) that is in me than he (Satan) that is in the world. Go the way of the Lord and you will not fall to temptations.
