Restitution

(I do not know if a similar thread has gone before)

Do we still make restitution today?
E.g.,
Luke 19 NKJV
8 Then Zacchaeus stood and said to the Lord, Look, Lord, I give half of my goods to the poor; and if I have taken anything from anyone by false accusation, I restore fourfold.

Is there a need for restitution when we realise we have taken something from someone?

There are certain items found in our homes which we know aren't ours. For Example, a borrowed novel from an old friend, a pair of shoes, screw driver etc., and even plagiarism, stealing from your government etc.

How do we feel when we see all these items in our home?

I know someone who made illegal money. He started by stealing from someone and was able to prosper in the wrong way. He has bought cars, built houses, and is married today. He has kids.

Does this man need restitution? Remember his stolen money gave him all these. Would he have to surrender his cars and house and wife and children etc

How about giving fake info about ourselves in order to get employment? Some People lie about their age. A 30yr old lies he/she is 23 in attempt to secure a job qualification!

We have difficulties returning what we took from others - what we know aren't ours.

It takes the grace of God to understand what restitution is all about.

I dug this thread out again. Maybe I'm still a little worried about this restitution thing. I don't think we should keep something that's not ours.

I am not sure if it would make sense to restore the things one has stolen unless one would do so anonymously. To me the best thing would be to ask God for forgiveness. To open up these old sins would cause too much pain and unwanted attention. What the person could do would use whatever he stole or got by illegal means to charity. If a person had stolen money from the bank and used it for his own purpose, buying houses, etc. What if the bank decided that they would make it into a court case. I believe it is best to leave well alone.

My two cent worth.

Thanks:wave. One of our ministers had a sermon on this restitution thing. He said a lot of scary things, and tried backing them up with the scripture. (I agree with you. I will also add that God should instruct us what to do)
