RIP Neil Armstrong

What an amazing life this man had... and the fact that the first meal consumed on the moon was communion shared between Armstrong and Aldrin.

Wow.

I remember watching a fuzzy image of Armstrong on our old black and white TV, sitting on my Dad's lap, feeling the goosebumps rise as Neil said those famous words, "That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind." Dad's eyes were filled with tears.

I remember that day too. I think a fitting memorial is in order.

There are concerns that the American education system is not really achieving much in the science subjects. Science Technology Engineering and Maths should be the interest that the educational officials should be concerned about.

May he rest in peace.

Same here. I remember watching that as a 10-year-old. Well, there goes another memory of our childhoods Handy and Abide. A lot of the people we looked up to are going. Now WE are the older generation. But it's nice to reminisce.

You are so right, Abide. As a matter of fact, the late Dr. Carl Sagan commented long ago (say, 30 years ago already) on his Series "Cosmos" I believe that he said we were weak on 1) Science 2) mathematics, and 3) Language. Of course the 3rd one not only helps amongst other societies, but one who brushes up on language is going to be better at other languages of sorts, e.g. computer science.

Another step for Neil Armstrong. His journey is over, may God bless him.

I was in the navy - stationed on Guam - when the the moon landing happened. We were at duty stations, but were able to listen to it on the radio. The whole mission leading up to that landing, the ups and downs of the space program, and the final succcessful achievement, was something we all were so proud of. Even later when Apollo 13 was in trouble - I was still on Guam - we expected NASA to find a way to get the guys home safely.

It was a time of great expectations and great pride...and Neil Armstrong was right at the center of it all, a big part of it.

I also remember when Sputnik was launched, and what a wake up call that was for us.
