If you notice I'm off and on the Forum today, it's because I'm roasting coffee at home.
Today I'm roasting Yeman Mocha Matari.

country: Yeman
type of coffee bean: Mocha
plantation: Matari

That's top of the line Yeman!

I had to give up brownies. The cops pulled me over for driving 10 MPH one night.

Good for you! I'd like to hear how it works out, because getting the roasting right isn't the easiest thing. That's the one part of producing coffee my daughter's friends on Hawai'i (small producers of Kona) still outsource to roasting specialists.

Commercial roasting for profit is quite different than what I do.
They have these giant machines that look like giant barrels with a lot of attachments, all computerized.
One mistake and you've wasted the whole batch.
The people who run these machines have engineering degrees from agricultural schools.

My little machine roasts a 1/4 lb. at a time.
And I have to watch it and make adjustments the whole time.
Each type of coffee is done differently.
A balanced roast (all beans cooking evenly) is essential.

I think Star Bucks has a you tube on it if you wanted to watch.

I remember my grandmother roasting coffee beans. she put them on a cookie sheet as green beans and they came out Black and we ground them by hand. good strong coffee.
