As many of you know, I posted a prayer request for a missing child, Robert Manwill, and those who have been following the case know that the little boy was found dead in a canal and that his mother and her live-in boyfriend have been arrested for his murder.
I'm creating a new thread regarding this case because the other one is in Prayer Requests. And, while there is still much to be prayed for I wanted a thread in a discussion forum, because I want to discuss, vent, rage, and be angry. All of which are inappropriate for Prayer Requests, but MOST appropriate for this case.
This morning the details of the arrests were made public.
The body of the little Robert was found to have been severely beaten in the stomach and the head and he died of head injuries.
The boyfriend, Daniel Erlick is being charged with first degree murder. There is some ambiguous reportage as to whether the mother is being charged with first degree murder or whether she is being charged with accessory to first degree murder. I'll know more when the noon news is reported.
At any rate what the general facts are is that the boy was staying with his mother, Melissa Jenkins, during court-appointed visitation, (he lived with his father) and disappeared on July 24. There were many press meetings in which family members cried and pleaded with the public that if anyone knew anything, to please call the Boise police.
Jenkins and Erlick were at these press meetings, arm in arm all the while auntie and dad were begging for information. :mad
OK, I'll leave the specifics of this case for the trial but I really want to vent about this: Melissa Jenkins and Erlick have a child between them, a boy named Aiden. Jenkins also had a daughter with yet another man, who has custody of the girl, just as Robert's father had custody of him. Now, Jenkins was convicted of misdemeanor injury to a child when she fractured Aiden's head. Her defense, "I was burping my son and I accidentally hit his head on the table". According to court records Aidan was declared to be in imminent danger and placed in the custody of the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare in October 2008.
Also, Erlick was forbidden by the court to have any contact with Jenkins daughter, the one who was in custody of her father. According to reportage by the Idaho Statesman, "Daniel Ehrlick Jr. has been convicted of burglary, battery and possession of drug paraphernalia, and he is banned by the courts from being alone with Robert's half sister, RayLynn. Ehrlick was sentenced to four years in prison in July 1998 and released in March 2002."
So, this is what I don't get. We have a couple who have their infant son removed from their home because he was declared to be in imminent danger. Also, it was already determined by a court that Erlick was to have no contact with Jenkins daughter.
So...WHY ON EARTH DID THE COURT MANDATE THAT ROBERT WAS TO HAVE UNSUPERVISED OVERNIGHT VISITATION WITH THESE TWO!?!
Forgive me for yelling, but somethings just should be yelled about. Here we have two adult people who are obviously a danger to children, and yet it was determined by the court that Robert was to visit these two, unsupervised, overnight and now little Robert has been beaten to death, dumped in a canal and these two are arrested for his murder.
My gosh what does it take to get children away from monsters!?!
