Is joining a christian forum a good start, spreading the good news on a forum, doing the works of God on a forum? Is this part of the good works God is talking about? I'm just thinking about those prophets before technology.

I don't see why not. But I suppose it would be pretty awkward if I thought otherwise :lol

I think it can be used as a tool by God to reach people you wouldn't be able to reach otherwise.

Our commission in Matthew 28 is to take the word of God out into the world and by also putting it on the net reaches more people than we could in our own back yards. For instance, my teaching website has reached close to 10,000 people and I could never reach that many from where I live.

Blessings, I also think the internet is a good tool. It shouldn't keep us from speaking the gospel into existence face to face though. I have done this with family, friends, work and atheist/buddhist forums. I can literally feel the hatred against me and the denying of Christ with these people. Romans 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes: first to the Jew, then to the Gentile. I'm starting to understand John 15:18 If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first. Keep in mind though, the devil really comes out of people when you speak the truth.

If you are talking about "spreading the good news" on a "Christian forum", isn't that kind of like preaching to the choir? I could see where you could help in "building up the body" so to speak with good encouragement and advice and also receive encouragement and advice yourself, but I think the unsaved audience would be rather small compared to a secular setting.

Preaching to the choir? no, that would be just like assuming just because you're saved you know everything now. Learning scripture is a lifetime experience, whether you're saved or not.

Maybe it's more like singing in a choir? When I look at the 97 visits made by Registered Members to the site today I also consider the statistics for the last hour where 42 Registered Members have visited and 227 unregistered Guest have looked too. It's an interesting thing to observe. What draws them? Is it really the love that may be seen that flows between brother and sister in the Lord? Some will be drawn to the "issue" and it is my hope that those who sing, sing unto the Lord.

I agree with what's been said so far. We should always be ready to give an answer for the hope that lies within us (1 Peter 3:15) A forum such as this is a good place because, as Sparrow has pointed out--a lot of folks drop by who don't know our Lord and are searching for answers. :)

I'm laughing out loud at Nick's remark... ha!

Yes! A forum is a great start! why not? God can use anything - He actually likes computers too :)
Forums and the internet are wonderful places to minister to people.. For instance, I often frequent a secular dream website where the people there interpret their dreams using all kinds of new age and occultic symbolisms.. The poor dears are not getting the proper interpretations at all of course. So I go on now & then and give out some interpretations. It's no surprise that God speaks to the unsaved as well as the saved and giving someone a message from God about something I couldn't possibly know about in their lives is a wake up call for the unsaved. That is only one example of how we can touch others online... There are many others such as on line peer counselling (lots of that goes on here at CF), etc...
God bless you as you seek His will

Yeah, good points being made. I guess when I hear "spreading the gospel" I think in terms of evangelism to the unsaved, but your absolutely right, Christians should be learning more and more about the scripture all our lives. That's more what I meant by "building up the body".

And, wow, 227 guests as opposed to 97 members (and I know some members are non-Christian too). Hadn't really thought of it that way. I suppose too, a non-Christian coming here as a guest is at least interested, as opposed to a person in a purely secular setting who might be interested or might (probably) not be. Yeah, good points made!
