Saint Hermione
Eternal memory to you, o blessed Hermione,
You manfully withstood all evil done to you by Trajan,
To him predicting victory over the Parthian empire.
Steadfastly you endured the rage of evil Hadrianus.
A virtuous daughter of the noble deacon Philip,
The Holy Spirit conferred you the gifts of prophesy and healing.
In Ephesus you longed to see beloved apostle John
To share apostleship in Asia Minor and beyond.
Accompanied by worthy sister Eutykhida,
You practiced virtues, fasting and the healing arts,
By prayer warding off unseen demonic darts.
Inflamed by Godly zeal,
You followed in the footsteps of Petronius,
Inheriting thus virtuous teaching of Saint Paul.
Once Trajan came to Ephesus,
Demanded you to be his guest
In want of hearing omen from a sorceress.
But hearing you confessing Christ,
Despising cults of idol-worshippers,
He told his butchers “hit her face,”
And you withstood it all not many hours.
In vision Christ appeared to you on Judgement seat enthroned,
Encouraging to defy pain as well as all the horrors.
And so you proved to be His worthy slave,
His faithful bride, one of His darling daughters.
For many years you served our God,
Triune Creator, Blessed and Eternal.
His name eternally be praised,
Who healed the sick through you,
Comforting those who were distressed,
Converting pagans by the word and preachings said by you,
Possessed by demons freeing from those evil spirits.
Like the good tree that brings abundantly good fruit
And blossoms with its greeny branches,
So you did please the Lord by doing good,
By faith and righteous life among the heathen.
Then Hadrianus suddenly arose
Who hated Christ in favor of his demons,
Those who were driven by the hellish flare.
And once again a Roman tyrant tortured you with no avail
In boiling cauldron and the vessel made red-hot by flame.
But then you have survived it all again,
Without suffering the agonizing pain.
The saddened tyrant lost his face,
He tried to save his reputation with an anger.
Being shamed by woman he gave up essay
And by beheading ordered Hermione’s ending,
But headsmen’s hands were withered then.
And they embraced the Gospel’s message of the Way.
In peace you gave your spirit unto God the Father.
Beholding lucid face of God in Jesus Christ,
Delighting in the Light of Trinity in highest Heavens,
Deprive us not, o Hermione, of your helping hand.
Pray for the world before the Judgement seat of Jesus.
