But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart” (that is, the word of faith which we preach): that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame.” For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord over all is rich to all who call upon Him. For “whoever calls on the name of the LORD shall be saved.” Romans 10:8-13

  • that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved

I have asked many times for those who hold to the Calvinistic precepts to explain how a person becomes saved, born again, regenerated without ever knowing about or hearing about Jesus Christ and His message of salvation.

To this day, I have received no answer.

The position that a person is "saved" first, then later on they "believe" the Gospel, seems to missing from the scriptures.

If anyone has the answer to this question I would like to hear it.

Thanks, JLB

Still waiting to hear from any Calvinist's concerning how a person becomes saved, without hearing and believing the Gospel message of salvation.

Here is what the scripture says -

that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. Romans 10:9-10

  • if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.

This is how the scripture teaches we are saved.

Any other way is another Gospel.

I firmly believe that infants who die in infancy are saved without hearing the gospel.

What about the deaf and the mute, the mentally retarted?

But then again I am not a Calvinist, but do believe the doctrines of grace.

Who am I to say what God can and cannot do.

Joh 12:42 Nevertheless even among the rulers many believed in Him, but because of the Pharisees they did not confess Him, lest they should be put out of the synagogue; 43 for they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God.

Did these many who believed in Him but were afraid to confess Him get saved?

Mat 10:32 "Therefore whoever confesses Me before men, him I will also confess before My Father who is in heaven.
Mat 10:33 But whoever denies Me before men, him I will also deny before My Father who is in heaven.

Again, the guys above believed in Him but were afraid to confess Him before men.

You'll never get an answer because no Calvinist believes that.
We do believe and the Bible teaches that people are chosen before the foundation of the world.
They are chosen to hear the gospel, believe and be saved. Each in their own time.

You can't seem to grasp the fact that those chosen before the foundation of the world are chosen to be born as sinners, live a life as a sinner, and then at God's chosen time, in God's providence, that person will hear the gospel (maybe when they are 15 years old, maybe when they are 50 years old) then believe that gospel, get baptized and then be justified and declared a saint.

Romans_1:7 To all who are in Rome, beloved of God, called to be saints . . .

Notice, called to be - sounds like future tense to me. They are not saints when they are chosen, but they are chosen to be saints in the future when they accept the gospel.

I was just thinking about this. What about Abraham, Noah or Moses. They never heard about Jesus.
They new there was going to me some kind of Messiah, but they had no idea it would be the Lord Himself.

New King James

Ephesians 3:4 by which, when you read, you may understand my knowledge in the mystery of Christ), 5 which in other ages was not made known to the sons of men, as it has now been revealed by the Spirit to His holy apostles and prophets: 6 that the Gentiles should be fellow heirs, of the same body, and partakers of His promise in Christ through the gospel,

The Jews had no idea Christ would do this. Even the disciples thought that Jesus was going to restore the Kingdom to Israel.

Acts 1:6 Therefore, when they had come together, they asked Him, saying, "Lord, will You at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?"

From Robertson's Word Pictures
As a matter of fact the Messianic kingdom for which they are asking is a political kingdom that would throw off the hated Roman yoke. It is a futuristic present and they are uneasy that Jesus may yet fail to fulfill their hopes. Surely here is proof that the eleven apostles needed the promise of the Father before they began to spread the message of the Risen Christ. They still yearn for a political kingdom for Israel. They need the enlightenment of the Holy Spirit
