Santa Claus Conquers the Martians

It was 1964, and the Martians were upset because their children were unhappy. And so, armed with dopey acting, dumb props, and a dynamite plot, a group of Martian bunglers kidnap Santa Claus.

Voted "The Worst Film Ever Made," and always occupying a place of honor on every list of bad films, "Santa Claus Conquers the Martians is actually a mid-class film for science fiction and Christmas lovers. And the scenes of the United States Air force scrambling jets from half a century ago are fantastic.

I liked it when I was eleven years old, and I liked it today. Not the best film your family will ever see, but definitely not the worst. Available for free at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TkEumP828D4

I saw that movie, and the Martians were really like the Soviets. After all, what was the largest region of the world at the time that didn't observe Christmas? The fact some of the Martians were really over-analytical and rationalist, dismissed Christmas as superstitious non-sense, requested authorization from the high council for everything, and scoffed at the century's old wisdom from the old sage makes me think it was a cryptic way of fitting a cold war theme into a movie. There was a Krushchev quality to that dialogue where the Martians were afraid to show weakness to the earthlings.
