Satan's imitating God?

I heard somewhere that Satan will imitate God on occasion. Is this true, based on the Bible's teachings?

If it is, how can I be certain which is influencing those who tech religion? Is it not possible that some of the 'bad' things in the Bible (genocide, murder, sexism, etc.) were products of Satan, not God?
