Saw

The plot: A deranged person puts individuals in life-threatening situations with the intention of teaching them (in a rather twisted way) the value of their lives. Not all the victims survive.

The warning: You may not be able to stomach certain scenes of gore and violence. I'd put this movie a notch up above the movie "Seven" in terms of disturbing scenes.

It was an interesting movie with a slight twist at the end. Would I recommend it? Possibly, but not for the faint of heart.

Wow, that says alot!

It's that type of a movie in which police find a dead body and piece together the gruesome details of how the person came to die.....only a number of people have died or are about to die in the movie.

Seven implied more, but showed less. This movie shows more and implies less.

I can't quite explain it, but the word morbid comes to mind.

Yes, I did the unfortunate thing of taking my wife (who was my girlfriend at the time) to Seven. She looked over at me in the theatre and said 'You owe me big time'

when I first saw the previews for 'Saw' I thought it would be along the lines of Seven as far as 'disturbing' goes. I have seen many horror movies. I have to say that 'Seven' out did them all for 'disturbing' and it wasn't even a horror movie. (Jacob's Ladder with Tim Robbins also made me feel a little insane)

It sounds like Saw is the same thing. Perhaps I'll rent it sometime when my wife is away. :)

Yes, you've got the right idea; I wouldn't classify "Saw" as a horror movie either. And, like 'Seven,' there's a storyline of mystery to keep the viewer intruigued. But, also like 'Seven,' there are enough graphic scenes to disturb a viewer.

And so, from a Christian point of view, the point of going to see this movie would be what?

Probably the same as going to see any other movie.

Saw is a decent movie. But its not in the same league as Seven though, not on any level.

********SPOILER*********(Don't read the following if you plan to watch the movie)

There was a point in the movie that it occured to me who the "mastermind/ killer" was. When the woman was told that the key was in the stomach of her dead cellmate, I immediately thought of the man lying on the floor in the two guy's cell and I really wondered if he was dead. Once the "apparent killer" came back to the cell and said "its the rules" then I figured the guy on the floor was involved somehow.

Its a good movie that I'd watch again but it wasn't all that it was hyped up to be.

I've watched the movie a few more times and I must say that it ages very well. It think that it was advertised (hyped) like it was due to its lack of high profile actors. Danny Glover was really the only big name actor and even he's not known as being the lead in movies. I would now put this on the list of classic thrillers with movies (but not necessarily better than) like Silence of the Lambs, Seven, and Primal Fear.

I've got to see Saw 2 now.

****SPOILERS****

After seeing it, I do feel a bit dirty. It wasn't as disturbing or as good as Seven, IMO.

Nonetheless it was still pretty disturbing.

I was bothered by a few inconsistencies, however.

The one part in particular was when Cary Elwes couldn't get to the phone and begins to saw through his ankle.

The phone was less than a foot out of his reach. Why couldn't he have used the saw to hook it and drag it to himself?

I've tried to justify it by the fact that he was wigging out but it just doesn't sit right with me.
