“Search Me & Change Me”
By Zach Wood
Psalm 139:23-24
Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.”

What a powerful passage and psalm from David! This is a deep cry out to God and a longing that he expresses to his Father to know him and turn him away from any way that does that please the Father. As I read this verse, I thought about the sermon a couple weeks ago regarding our motives for the things we do and say to others. Sometimes, our motives are hidden and we can fool many people. But, we can never fool God. He knows us and wants us to be led in His way. He knows we are human and we will chase after what our flesh desires. However, we must realize that our flesh desires will not bring any eternal peace.

What’s your motive? If God searched your heart and your thoughts, would He find selfish motives or would He find a servant’s attitude and desire in all that you do? I’m often fighting selfish desires within. I find myself knowing I need to be a good minister for my congregation, a good husband to my wife and a good father to my children. However, so often, my motives aren’t pure and right. I want what I want and that’s how it is! In these times, I desperately need to ask God to cleanse me from these ways and thoughts and seek him in all I do. My desire should be to serve Him by serving others and being the role model He has called me to be.

We would most likely all agree that we desire for God to change us and make us more like Him, but the actual change sometimes is a great challenge for us to accept. The change is usually never easy, but the growth it brings to our lives is wonderful.

Have you asked God to search your mind and heart lately? Have you asked Him to show you what ways you need to change to follow Him more passionately? If we pray that way, we need to be ready and willing to change to follow Him with more commitment.

You're right, up to the last sentence I think. He doesn't accept 'more commitment' unless it's total. All or nothing He says.(often, repeatedly, in Scripture). Total, complete, wonderful, beautiful, exhausting, completely trusting Him for all things, commitment. I think at one place Jesus told someone/several people : count the cost first, don't just start following Me and then turn back. learn what it is going to take to be My disciple. don't think that the Father will be pleased if you turn back. (paraphrase of several Scriptures; gone to get one or more Yhwh willing. be right back) >>>
Mark 8:34-35
New Living Translation (NLT)

34 Then, calling the crowd to join his disciples, he said, “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must turn from your selfish ways, take up your cross, and follow me. 35 If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake and for the sake of the Good News, you will save it.

another (several) place it is written that to follow Yeshua requires not just a little of ones life, but all of it, all that is within, all of the energy one has to do anything is needed to be exerted to follow Jesus and do as He says. not just words on a plaque on the wall to feel good, but a total complete thorough life change wrought from the inside out by ABBA.

Total surrender is everyday as when we wake we need to crucify this flesh as the flesh and Spirit will always war against each other and those in the flesh can never please God.

John 3:6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

Gal 5:16 This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.
Gal 5:17 For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.

that's true, just as it is written. who has given up their job and home and family and income for the Gospel's Sake today ? ... ... in the last century ?

many have, but these are the ones we never hear about, but are out there in the mission fields of the whole world.

Mat_9:37 Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few;

watchman nee(and over a dozen of his edifiers, and over 10,000 of his students, before AND after his 13 plus year solitary confinement and death in a dark prison in china), corrie ten boom, keith green, david wilkerson, carey reams, and dozens of others in "foxes book of martyrs", and dozens with short bibliography/testimony in the book "jesus freaks", and many many more who got kicked out of or couldn't go to 90% of today's churches.

and me. shalom to all who love ABBA in Yeshua and are immersed in His Name to live His Way ! :)
