Seeing This In My Rear-View Mirror

that stop making those along ,long time ago. the jake brake is what took place of that which doesn't stall and engine out, just does what you say for you. the engine is a brake in both ideas. most of those that had that were automatics if I remember right.
The school buses I drove were not diesel, they were gas and not automatics. Oh and it was very quiet, really couldn't hear it. Retarders are still being used in that school district and one bus in the district I live in now. It was installed in the bus here because of the steep mountain road on that route.
Sheesh.....Jason just how old do you think I am?

In searching for some info. I found this pdf where retarders are used on the school buses in Gunnison, CO. They use both electromagnetic and hydraulic. http://www.gunnisonschools.net/DocumentCenter/Home/View/2247

abs allows slip, to allow you steer what you are going to hit. it pulses the brakes for that purpose.

I understand how the brakes work, but once you're sliding on the ice, the only thing that's going to slow you down is uninterrupted distance or a stationary object.

This is what I said....
"Black ice always makes me wish I had an engine retarder on my vehicle like I had on the school bus I first drove.
I don't know why they are not on semis or very few anyway."
My husband told me that he thought that a retarder works differently than a jake does but he has never used a retarder only a jake. So he may be wrong.
But as I said or meant to, had he hit the Jake on that Black Ice with doubles being pulled he would have killed people in the jack knife before he steered away from the mess already there.

Absolutely true and that is why I give the drive, male or female, kudos. My first choice in that situation would have, also, been to steer into the divider. He stil Jack Knifed but he killed nobody.

I wonder if we could pass a test?
1. What is a Jake brake an explain the equipment and function?
2. What is a transmission retarder, and explain the equipment and function?
3. What is an engine exhaust retarder, and explain its equipment and function?
4. What are anti lock brakes, and explain the equipment and function.
5. What combination of 1-4 can be used together and address the heat issues ?

If some find this thread, I bet a few laughs will result.

I hope we do better at Bible knowledge. LOL

I don't know how the video-taper can remain so calm when he saw that comin. I would've at least been saying my final prayers "I'm comin to join ya Jesus!!" and then have a heart-attack.

Ya know, I tell my husband to sign up for these forums and look what he's missing! He's a Class B driver- he used to have a Class A license as well. He could answer that and then some.
