I have long been special friends with one of my black brethren at Church. We went one with the other to medical procedures that required another driver, he stayed six weeks with me when he had the majority of his colon removed, and he went home to be with Jesus two weeks ago today.

We celebrated his home going this past Saturday, and him being an elder in our assembly, he affected the lives of many in his walk with the Lord. The church was filled, and a dinner afterward.

I attend very little church functions since my wife of fifty-eight years is near full care, but I loved this man and knew his daughters, and felt an obligation of sorts.

I have gained weight, have no suits or even suitable clothing for that matter except levis and tee shirts or sweat shirts, and wearing my cleanest set I sought out the back row of the church out of sight. I even attempted to go in a minute late so as to not be noticed; the service started late.

The older daughter not to be denied had been looking for me came to the back of the church and asked me to please come to the front of the congregation and sit with them as part of their family. I reckon that if God has something planned huh? I didn’t stay for the dinner, hurried out after the service and thought on these events for some time afterward.

Yesterday, my best friend, a crazy Puerto Rican brought forth wisdom when I told him what happened, and he suggested the following scenario. I praise God for His ongoing work in us that believe.

Luk 14:8 When thou art bidden of any man to a wedding, sit not down in the highest room; lest a more honourable man than thou be bidden of him;
Luk 14:9 And he that bade thee and him come and say to thee, Give this man place; and thou begin with shame to take the lowest room.
Luk 14:10 But when thou art bidden, go and sit down in the lowest room; that when he that bade thee cometh, he may say unto thee, Friend, go up higher: then shalt thou have worship in the presence of them that sit at meat with thee.

Amen Eugene!

And he that shall humble himself shalt be exalted.

wow. awesome. I think its great...your good friend meant so much to you, and you didn't even realize how much you meant to him and his family until the funeral.

That's great and what you got out of the deal was probably more important than anything else but I kinda thought your post was headed in the direction of you getting some cloths.

Are we, as in anyone who will, allowed to do anything about that here on this board? If so, I'm game, anyone else? I'd say best to keep it private but if we go private, not one see's what's going on so they can offer if they want.

Surely the board has a way to handle this? Input?

Hi Eugene! I can tell it took a great deal of courage to do what you did. It would have taken bravery to take the highest seat or the lowest seat...either one would have been hard to do. Have patience and keep praying even when it seems futile. Their is a season still to come for you!
