I had an experience when I was young along with my mother, aunt, and a cousin. I've wondered why we were blessed by God to see this ever since. I'm 31 now this happened around age 9 to 11 somewhere in that range. I want opinions or anything that someone who reads this has as input. So here's the story. We were at a small campground in southern Indiana called Pride's Creek. We were walking along the lake and I saw a cloud with every bright light shining through it and it could not have been the sun. The sun was out in the open on the other side of the sky. As I look at the cloud it slowly starts to open up. I mean literally open like a portal or something. I point it out and now all of us are watching in amazement as this cloud completely opens to a beautiful bright light brighter than the sun but it didn't hurt your eyes. There was clearly plain as day a literal golden staircase in the opening and in what felt like forever a man came to the end of the staircase and he was radiating light brighter than anything else. You couldn't see his features but you could see it was a masculine frame. He stood there with his arms open and then we watch this cloud start closing up and in an instant it was closed and was just a regular cloud in the sky. I've prayed and pondered since then for answers. Why did we see that? Why would God allow us that incredible sight? What's the purpose behind it? Are we really the only ones that saw it? My uncle was fishing around the corner of the lake and he didn't believe of us and he saw nothing. It was not possible to miss this amazing happening in the sky! Does anyone have a take on this? And opinion? Anything remotely similar? What do you think we were blessed with that for? Please someone who reads this feel free to speak on this.

How close would you say you are with Him right now. Do you spend time in study, prayer, church? Or would you say you are more distant at this point in your life?
The point of mission etc from God is that they are meant to bring one closer to Jesus.
All I an suggest is to make every effort to read your bible to pray about what you read and to attend church each Sunday.
An old puritan once said. " If you want extraordinary experiences of God, enlarge your ordinary worship of him."
May I suggest you do that.

I would agree with Who Me here. The point of such experiences is to draw us to God; to question, and to seek for answers; to believe in things other than merely what exists in the natural, and to ultimately find God in the process.
We all have struggles, but don't let them overcome you. Place the highest importance on the relationship you have with the Lord, and on where you will be spending eternity.

That is a very young age to see such a miraculous phenomenon. It could have been a sign from God at such an early age for you to come to Jesus and possibly has great plans for you when He knows you are ready for what He has in store. Just keep pressing into Him and read and study His word and when the timing is right He will reveal to you where He wants you to be.

I mean, a man standing at the foot of a golden staircase would certainly seem to be a calling from Jesus. You don't really say anything in your profile, but are you a believer? Have you been baptized and born again? Perhaps there's a reason that God is bringing this vision to your memory today after all these years. And I'm not intending to condemn or judge, just asking questions as that seems to be why you're bringing this incident to us.
You mention slipping and struggling. How bad has that gotten?
