-overloaded people fail
If you feel like your head hurts all the time and you don’t feel like getting up in the morning, it’s time to check out if you’re overloaded. Write out everything you do now and ask yourself if you really want to do all of those things. Would you like to give up something, because it isn’t for you? Who loads up your life? Let the Lord use you. Remember that quality is more important than quantity. What can you still do with quality? What does God want you to do? If you don't find the answer right away, just keep searching.

Prayer usually helps.

My burnout always seems to happen when I'm in school. Right now, I'm LOVING my job and I also volunteer at my kids school. So, I'm taking the spring semester off. School will ALWAYS be there. Having small children, volunteering at their school and me enjoying my job may NOT always be there. I prioritize. Sure it's important to me to finish school and become a nurse, but not as important as the other things.

Thanks! I enjoyed your post.

I never loose my faith, or become distracted just becuae I may step away for a while from church, so when I get burned out I take a little break from it all, and then go back, it helps alot.

I try to remember that as I get older, neither my mind or my body works as fast it used to. Therefore, I have to stop getting down on myself for not being able to carry the same load as I did 20 years ago.

I realized a few years ago that I'm never going to live long enough to do everything I want to do anyway, so I might as well face up to it and not let it bother me. It took awhile, but I'm OK with it now. :)

I CAN SURE RELATE TO THIS POST:-

quote]

I'll never forget cutting thru a dark park to get to a gospel gig on time

I couldn't see a black banana skin on the black tarmac in that dark park

Can you just see me lying there, totally winded & unable to make a sound, or move a muscle?

I thought, "Lord, if anyone comes along, I can't warn them that I'm here, or avoid them tripping over me or stepping on me" - I was wearing a black coat, black chinos & black shoes too!

Prayer can let the Prince of Peace give the 'peace that passes understanding' - as James said, "If anyone lacks wisdom, ask God who gives generously without upbraiding, & ask in faith, as a double-minded man can receive nothing from the Lord

I recall praising God in church, the Sunday after I'd had to leave that gig in agony & go to hospital

I said, "Lord, thank you for your superb sense of humour: there I was, as helpless as a baby, having been in a champion martial arts team in my youth - but Your mighty Presence wityh me as I lay paralysed in that park made me feel safer than I've ever felt"

Why go into that story?

In the prayer that no overworked reader lets male pride blind them

I recall 2 very fit, energetic pastors who, quite separately, so overworked that they were ill with exhaustion for @ 6 months each - both led the biggest evangelical church in their respective areas at the time - both had over 1000 members (which was huge for NW UK 1970s churches)

1 is now the UK evangelism director for Elim & still very fit & energetic

He learnt to pace himself & there may be folk you know who need a link to this thread, to help them re-assess their lives & priorities this Christmas, yes?

God bless!

Ian

Great stories, Ian, and I'm glad you're OK. I hope you didn't suffer any permanent damage from your fight with that banana peel!

Yes, pacing is very important, also delegation when necessary.

Prayer, reading (christian or computer related)

My current read is "Knowing God" by J. I. Packer.
My current computer project. Setting up a Linux DAW (digital audio workstation) so I can mix & master.

For me it has been important to do one or two of these things at least one day a week (usually Friday or Saturday). This allows me to unwind from work, and Sunday bible study with my family prepares me for the week ahead. Sometimes we go out on Friday or Saturday to unwind. For instance next Saturday we plan on doing a double feature (Chronicles of Narnia & King Kong)

Also my husband & I take at least two days a month just for us. Lounge around the house, go to the movies or out to dinner, lunch or breakfast.

I'm also planning to go and see Chronicles of Narnia. Do you mix& master music? I lead a Christian music group.

My husband actually does the writing & mixing, I handle the mastering.

Do you have actual musicians as well as singers? I sequence music backing tracks that are useful for churches that have no musicians as such but may have someone who can lead out in worship service. I sequence anything from hymnal to contemporary Christian songs. I then transfer the sequenced data to mini-disk or CD. Played through a PA System these tracks sound like the real thing.

Yes, I have musicians: 3 guitar players and I play the key-board. all 4 of us sing.
I'd like to hear something you've made.

I'll see what I can do sometime in the New Year.

Thanks!
