Should a Christian act holier than thou? Lately, it seems to be the case with some of the members here.

Do you believe that men can be holy as God is?

No.
Jon-Marc said:While we are commanded to be holy, that does not mean we should act as though we are better than others. A "holier than thou" attitude is sinful and turns people off. We need to remember that we were once unsaved and lost in our sins, and that the only difference is that we have been forgiven and given eternal life--something we never deserved and didn't earn. It was all by the grace of God.

Dave Slayer said:God also gave commandments, but He knew we could not keep them. I believe once we are saved, we can become more holy, more like Christ. But as long as we are living in the flesh, we will always fall short and will never become completely holy while we live on earth. It is true that once we are saved, God doesn't look at us as sinners, but we sill sin and fall short of the glory of God. We aren't saved because we sin less or because we try not to sin at all. We are saved because God loves us. The only time when we will be free of sin is when we are made perfect in heaven. Does this make any sense? Am I off the mark?

Should a Christian act unholier than thou?
Unfortunately, this is the case far too often!
...as he who called you is holy, be holy yourselves in ALL your conduct; since it is written, "You shall be holy, for I am holy." I Peter 1:15,16 RSV
Don't try to tell us that it is impossible to be holy. God doesn't command us to do that which we are incapable of performing.
Misfit said:My point was that it's impossible to be like GOD. But of course you will disagree with this too, because disagreeing is what you do.

And what do you do? Agree with everyone? If so, in what capacity are you a "misfit"?
Kelli said:I think sometimes people may think we act Holier than thou, because we don't do things the world does. For instance, I asked a Cintas Representative (they sell first aid and lotions to businesses) ANYWAY... How much it would cost if I bought a bottle of their lotion, she told me the price and after she left, my co-worker said, just put one in your purse, no one will know. It was hard, I didn't know what to say without sounding holier than thou. I mumbled something unintelligible and changed the subject.
I would like some suggestions on how not to act holier than thou, and still walk the walk...
Thanks,
Kelli
