Sickness: Is it God's Will?

golfjack

Member
I believe that sickness and disease are not the will of God for His people. He does not want a curse to be upon His children; He wants to bless them with health. Sickness is not a blessing. I base this on Gal. 3:13.

Please give me your opinion on this subject about Healing. We need to be in faith and not unbelief. You will be surprised when you pray the prayer of faith.

May God bless, golfjack

Sickness is a result of sin entering the world and the hearts of people. I have no idea what God's will is concerning sickness. I do know that Paul prayed three times to be healed and God finally told him, "My grace is sufficient for thee." Apparently, it's not always His will to heal. It can sometimes bring Him glory and praise. I praise God for EVERYTHING that happens. When I feel a sharp pain, I praise Him. When I get stopped by a red light I praise Him. When I had a car accident last Friday I praised Him, because I knew that He must have saved me from something far worse. In my sickness I praise Him, because He is worthy to be praised in ALL things.

Sickness is the result of mans fall into sin. So we have to say that sickness is not Gods will, but he allows it.

We all live under the same circumstances in this world. Like sometimes good things happen to the bad, as well as to those who follow Christ - as well as bad things do.

Just as the Bible says the rain falls both on the crops of the good, as well as the bad, likewise the sun also shines on the crops of both.

This was all included in Christ' sacrifice, it made it possible for God to once again look in favor on man, whereas before Christ' death God and man were separated by sin. Where we see before Christ sacrifice, Biblical plagues like swarms of locust, and great famines were more or less common place.

Not that we do not have them in some parts of the world today, but not on the Biblical scale of decimating whole areas of the then known world. Of course these were usually Gods judgement on a nation for its sin. Again we don't face imminent judgements, but wait on the final judgement.

It is not the will of God that we be sick. In Bible days, it was not God's will for the children of Israel to be sick, and they were God's servants. Today, we are God's children. If it was not His will for even His servants to be sick, it could not be His will for His children to be sick. Sickness and disease are not of love. God is love.

In Luke 13, Jesus was teaching in one of the synagogues on the sabbath. A woman came in who was bent over. She could have had arthritis or something of that nature, because her body was bent in a stationary position. Jesus called her to Him and said, Woman, thou art loosed from thine infirmity ( v.12).

Now the ruler of the synagogue became angry when Christ healed the sick woman, but Jesus said, Ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan hath bound, lo, these eighteen years, be loosed from this bonnd on the sabbath day? ( v. 16). Jesus said it was satan who had bound this woman.

We see in Acts 10:38: How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him. This scripture makes it clear that the people Jesus healed were oppressed of the devil.

Some people today would have you believe that God sends sickness upon people to bless them. They'll tell you, Stay away from those meetings where they pray for the sick to be healed. That's of the devil.

If they are right, then God and the devil must have swapped jobs lately. 2 thousand years ago, Satan was oppressing people and Jesus was healing them.

The Bible tells us, Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and today, and for ever ( Heb. 13:8). Jesus never changes. From the beginning to the end of His public ministry, Christ was combatting Satan. His battle was not with men, but with demons who indwelt men.

Don't ever tell anyone sickness is the will of God for us. It isn't. Healing and health are the will of God for mankind. If sickness were the will of God, heaven would be filled with sickness and disease.

Remember, Jesus in His earth walkj was the will of God in action. He came to unveil the Father to us. He is the Word of God. He is God speaking to us. ( see John 1:14; Heb. 1:1, 2). If you want to know God thinks about sickness, look at Jesus. He went about healing the sick.

Next, let's look at some healing scriptures.

I do know that God uses sickness to teach us lessons we wouldn't learn any other way. Sin brought sickness into the world, and God uses it for His purpose. He didn't heal Paul of whatever ailed him (Many believe it to be his eyes). Many people (including myself) have prayed for healing of all kinds and received no healing. Sometimes the sickness is for the purpose of bringing glory to God, as it says in John 11:4.

How can you possibly say sickness is for God.s glory? For His Word says different. John 11:4 means sickness among God's people will never result in death as the final result. Death will be destroyed by the resurrection. Jesus is talking about spiritual death here. After Adam sinned, he suffered spiritual death as a result, and finally physical death manifested. What does the Holy Spirit say about healing? 1 Peter 2:24 says Who His own self bare our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, we being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were ( past tense) healed. God does not give His people curses anymore. We live under the new covenant now. The reason you probably weren't healed is because of your unbelief for healing. You must speak your faith to God.

So then why are some babies born deformed and sick? If its God will for no one to be sick, then why are these innocent children in the icu everyday?

Its because of sin. We are all born with a sin nature. How anyone can say anything else is a mystery.

reply

Babies are born with sickness at times because there are many mitigating circumstances involved like Aids, smoking, drinking, incest, and many other things. You see, we have a Savior who has redeemed us from the curse oof the Law. It is one's choice that make things happen in their lives. So, it isn't God that creates sickness, but the enemy and Sometimes God does allow things to happen, but the source of sickness is always Satan. Satan is the God of this world, and the last of his ravages is physical death, but with Christ we have life and abundantly.

Actually, God's Word says precisely that:

Joh 9:1 As he passed by, he saw a man blind from birth.
Joh 9:2 And his disciples asked him, "Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?"
Joh 9:3 Jesus answered, "It was not that this man sinned, or his parents, but that the works of God might be displayed in him.

I used to go to a church that taught that, and I believed it. But once I left I saw how utterly wrong that is and how devastating a teaching that can be.

And this begs the question that mutzrein raises: Why does God allow this to happen, especially since you disagree that it would be for His glory?

I didn't say it, Jesus did in John, 11:4: "This sickness is not unto death but for the glory of God, that the son of God might be glorified thereby."

My opinions

God knows about every sickness. Its cause. And what is necessary to be healed.

Every sickness has a different cause.

Some sickness is caused by sin. Yours, or someone else's.

Every sickness can be healed by faith in the stripes of Jesus Christ.

Most sick people would rather trust in doctors and drugs than in Jesus.

Some people want to be sick.

All sickness should be prayed over. Not just asking God to fix it. But asking God why it is there in the first place. Sometimes there is something that needs to be repented of.

Every sickness can be used by God for a different purpose. Is it His will to use it as He used the blindness of the man in John 9, so that the works of God can be manifest. (One of the greatest lessons any Christian can learn is that not everything that happens to you is about you)

Christians will never agree on healing. Not on God's will. Not on God's ability to use people to minister healing. Not on the causes of disease.

God does heal. Today.

God does raise people from the dead. Today.

Not all people want to be raised from the dead.

The devil wants you sick. The devil wants you to believe that it is God that wants you to be sick. The devil does not want you to know the power in the stripes that Jesus bore. The devil wants you to spend all of your time and money on doctors and drugs.

Yes God' can you sickness to prove a point or to force you to come to Him. People remember God can do what He wants. And there are a lot of things' that we don't understand about God. It is not His will that we be sick. But sometimes He lets you know that' only He can heal you. Some things about God is a puzzle' I mean why are newborns born sick' they have done nothing to anybody. I think I will start a topic on something in this tread.

Cause and Effect ~ Just a few observations.

animosity towards Gods people can get you into trouble

Deu 7:15 And the LORD will take away from thee all sickness, and will put none of the evil diseases of Egypt, which thou knowest, upon thee; but will lay them upon all [them] that hate thee.

Obedience is a factor in our health.

Exd 15:26 And said, If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the LORD thy God, and wilt do that which is right in his sight, and wilt give ear to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians: for I [am] the LORD that healeth thee.

Unbelief can keep a healing from happening.

Mar 6:1 And he went out from thence, and came into his own country; and his disciples follow him.
Mar 6:2 And when the sabbath day was come, he began to teach in the synagogue: and many hearing [him] were astonished, saying, From whence hath this [man] these things? and what wisdom [is] this which is given unto him, that even such mighty works are wrought by his hands?
Mar 6:3 Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James, and Joses, and of Juda, and Simon? and are not his sisters here with us? And they were offended at him.
Mar 6:4 But Jesus said unto them, A prophet is not without honour, but in his own country, and among his own kin, and in his own house.
Mar 6:5 And he could there do no mighty work, save that he laid his hands upon a few sick folk, and healed [them].
Mar 6:6 And he marvelled because of their unbelief. And he went round about the villages, teaching.

Golfjack,

Are you not going to answer the two verses which directly contradict what you are saying?

Unbelief ''will'' keep a healing from happening......

A question for you golfjack. What do you see as the purpose of Job's afflictions?

Volumes have been written on Job's afflictions. He probably needs a thread of his very own, but for the sake of this thread, here is one aspect of the satanic attack.

Complacency.

Job 16:12 I was at ease, but he hath broken me asunder: he hath also taken [me] by my neck, and shaken me to pieces, and set me up for his mark.

Job was the most righteous of men, and in the most wicked of places. He should have been about the Fathers business. Job should have been the salt and light there.

God hates complacency. These are just two verses that show that.

Proverbs 1:32
For the turning away of the simple will slay them, And the complacency of fools will destroy them;
Zephaniah 1:12
“ And it shall come to pass at that time That I will search Jerusalem with lamps, And punish the men Who are settled in complacency, Who say in their heart, ‘ The LORD will not do good, Nor will He do evil.’

Something about the Book of Job that is often misunderstood:
Many believe that God offered Job up to satan on a silver platter and told him to "go after him".

Job 1:8 And the LORD said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that [there is] none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil?

One sermon that I heard claims that something was lost in the translation, or in the way that we read it. It really made sense. It would be more accurate if we were to read it as if the Lord had said "Do you have your heart set on attacking my servant Job?"

And this verse:
Job 1:12 And the LORD said unto Satan, Behold, all that he hath [is] in thy power; only upon himself put not forth thine hand. So Satan went forth from the presence of the LORD.

This is more of a statement that Job had left himself open to the attack.
The devil went after Job the way a barracuda goes after shiny things in the ocean. Job was righteous, feared God and hated evil. That made him as a bright shiny thing in the eyes of the unrighteous, ungodly evil one.

It was through seeking God, repentance and his forgiveness of his "friends" that brought about healing and restoration to Job.

All of these things are still keys to bringing healing and restoration.
