Silent Hill (Sickning movie)

Well since I'm really into sci-fi and monster movies; I thought I'd go checkout Silent Hill with my friend one Friday and since I rarely do anything other than goto the gym or stay home I thought it might be fun.

Below is my review of Silent Hill, one of the most disgusting gut wrenching movies. Although the movie is all digital, actors and stage blood the issue of gruesome awful images just sickens me.

Grossest movie I've seen since Texas Chainsaw Massacre. This movie starts out very, VERY weird... It's definately the most confusing movie I've seen to date. A few minutes into the movie the officer stops the woman and her daughter and as the cop is walking torwards this womans vehicle she speeds off for no reason at all. Anyways she gets into the movie and all these zombie ghoulish creatures are raising heck in this town. Awhile into the movie this woman runs away from the cop and runs into this school chasing what she thinks is her daughter. She looks through the stalls of this bathroom at this school and sees a man wrapped up in barbed/razor wire mutilated. Turns out late in the movie the man raped a little girl that looks like this womans daughter years ago and since this little girl almost died in the fire she became filled with hate and killed him with her magic? floating razor wire. (He molested her in the bathroom years ago) Then a bit after this the woman and the cop meet up and team up just as the main woman is about to die the cop opens up a big steel door and saves her from this huge guy with a big triangle thing on his head with a 6-10 ft machete who has these monster type bugs trying to kill the women. Anyways the room starts changing and everything disappears and then everything goes to like a normal room. When the rooms change it looks like skin is being peeled from the tiles and everything in the room. Now probly half an hour to 45 minutes later in the movie the woman meets this evil little girls mother from many many years ago as well does the cop. The darkness fills the sky once again and all the evil creatures come out and the big triangle headed dude grabs a villager type woman, grabs her chest and rips her skin off, it showed everything... Then he just basically broke her body with his hands, very disgusting... Then torwards the end of the film the cop is burned alive by these villagers because the woman that was with the cop was a helper of the witch (the woman trying to find her little girl, but the people think it's another girl thats evil) and burn the cop to death which shows her face boiling... Very disgusting once again... Then the evil little girl goes into the body of the woman and they enter these villagers church and the crazy leader woman wants to kill the mother for being a witch and stabs her in the heart and she starts bleeding and then a circle in the floor collapses and the burnt little evil girl comes up and kills everyone in the building except for the mother and her little girl that she rescued... While this little girl is mutilating every person (yes they show it) the mother grabs her little girl and says baby keep your eyes closed and then the little girl looks at the evil little girl and then it switches scenes to where everything looks normal, no corpses no evil little girl... They run back to their vehicle and drive back home? The dad who has been trying to contact his wife has no luck and gets a call from her as shes on her way home (they're divorced but she wants comfort from her ex husband) anyways it's all static and you can barely hear them on the phone with him. It then switch scenes to them at his house with the door open, all cloudy like a dream scequence they're looking at him all happy, but then he opens his eyes and gets up, there isn't a cloudy look to the film anymore and he doesn't see anyone there, but he felt their presense. Then he walks torwards the door it's open and it's raining out, he looks outside and no one is there... And thats the whole film in a nutshell if you don't understand anything from it just ask..

I can remember playing the video game on PS1. I liked the eeriness it had.... then the monster stuff kind of made it a little more farfetched. But I 'd still like to see it at some point. From what I've seen in the previews, it seems like a mix betweeen the movies Resident Evil, Pitch Black, Session 9, and 28 Days Later. Maybe just a hint of The Shining too.

I avoid movies where kids are involved in sex crimes or mutilation. Why would I fill my head with that crap. Kids are the anchor of innocence and the enemy knows that. If they can be degraded through books, movies (porn included), music ect. then they become in effect cheap. I am not saying that everyone who watches a horror movie involving children will turn into Mr. Hyde, but those who have no walls between control and the fascination with horror have their buttons pushed by what they absorb. I have four kids, and because of them I am careful about what movies are watched in our house, either by them or by my wife and I. I'm into sci-fi, fantasy, action ect., and I own over 800 DVDs but no DVD comes into the house without being screened first.

I think you kind of miss the point. The movie becomes more horrific because of the inclusion of children, specifically because we regard them as innocent and sacred. It doesn't degrade them, it capitalizes on their innocence to really target us on a fundamental level, and to trigger our desire to protect the weak. In a way, these movies remind us of children's innocence, and thus reinforce their status as sacred.

And I can't wait to see this movie. The game was fantastic, and from what I hear, the movie does a good job at recreating the visual impact of the game.

Though I also hear the dialogue is crap on a stick.

“The movie becomes more horrific because of the inclusion of children, specifically because we regard them as innocent and sacred.â€Â

That is the only thing you said that makes sense.

“It doesn't degrade them, it capitalizes on their innocence to really target us on a fundamental level, and to trigger our desire to protect the weak.â€Â

Didn’t know that people need horror movies to “trigger†desires of compassion.

“In a way, these movies remind us of children's innocence, and thus reinforce their status as sacred.â€Â

If we need a horror movie to remind us of the sanctity and innocence of children then we are definitely a lost cause.

So far what you’ve said is ignorant to say the least. The argument you have presented only confirms that people like yourself will glean your moral opinions from anywhere but the Bible.

Dude...how is that a review? That's a summarization of the entire movie.

A review should comment on the plot, the character development, the excitement, what demographic it is meant for, and how close it follows the game.

You should put a spoiler warning if you're gonna ruin the entire movie for people.

Well... I didn't understand anything you just said so... I ask? I got there's zombies, rape's digusting and the movies weird. I guess that's good though, because now it isn't spoiled for me.

Seen Silent Hill over the weekend and here's some thoughts on the movie...NO SPOILERS.

First, I wanna state I like all kinds of movies and have no problem watching violent, bloody, gory or even exploitation flicks. I dont knock anyone who doesnt like them and expect not to be knocked by others (especially practicing Christians) for my tastes in these films. I love horror, its as simple as that.

*I am not a gamer. Never even seen SH the game played.

Some feelings...

Visceral overload of stunning magnitude and horrific images

Disapointed with some of the dialogue and line delivery..

Great cinematography

Photorealistic CGI effects

Haunting musical score that for me was reminiscent of Argento's Inferno, Fulci's The Beyond and Bava's Lisa and the Devil (Now, except for Lisa and the Devil which deals with alternate realities, I'm not really a fan of these Euro horrors, but do recognize certain scenes in these films as haunting...but its their music that I really dig)...Silent Hill gave me that same experience...it had a Euro feel to it for me..was it the music, at times the cheesy dialogue, the images or all? Maybe all...

Mainstream Hollywood has actually produced a surreal, advante garde horror movie and I am glad. Its everything Argento, Fulci and Bava would have dreamed about being able to produce. SH for me is a flawed masterpiece and I can live with that. I just hope there is a directors cut (and NO, we dont need more gore or blood) I want a DC that has maybe more scenes or exposition. It just felt like some stuff was edited out; even though the film is a 2 hour cut.

For instance..the cop...Rose runs away and the cop is still there on the road seeing more of those demon things coming and we dont see her again til she pops up later in the nick of time. Theres a few scenes like that with "gaps" I truly hope there is more to add onto this movie. While recognizing its flaws I cannot wait to own Silent Hill on dvd. 7/10

Update: Just found out the director has stated there IS in fact a 3 hour cut to this film! I hope Sony Pictures does the right thing and allow the fans of this movie to experience a true edit as the director originally intended. :)

Wow, how nice of you to assault my morals.

At any rate, isn't the purpose of a movie supposed to be to trigger certain emotions? A good movie, anyway. Old Yeller succeeds because it makes us feel sadness and loss at the death of a beloved pet. Die Hard succeeds because it makes us feel tension and danger alongside John McClane. Romance movies succeed because they make us happy at the resolution of two lovers coming together. And horror movies succees because they invoke feelings of primal fear and loathing.

If you don't want to have any emotional responses triggered, then why are you going to see a movie in the first place? Why do you partake of any entertainment media?

Question. What do you guys think of The Exorcist. Billy Graham was quoted as saying that there was evil in the film. Lots of my christian friends say that it is much to graphic and vulgar. But shouldn't it be if it is to portray what demonic possession is all about? Especially this well documented case on which the movie was based. Same with the :eft Behind movies. i felt they were much too tame in what horrors the bible says that are yet to come. Thoughts? Comments? By the way, The exorcist STILL creeps me out like no other movie has. It makes me feel quite uneasy after watching it. Great film and book, but still very creepy.
