Hi,

I wonder if you can help me find similar Christian rock bands to Third Day, Skillet, Relient K, Flyleaf, etc?

I listened to Jars of Clay, Pillar and Underoath (too heavy).

Do any of the following bands (or others) fall into the Skillet / Third Day category?

Stryper
Red
Anberlin
Decyfer Down
Disciple
MxPx
Switchfoot
Newsboys
Jeremy Camp
Kutless
Family Force 5
Thousand Foot Krutch

Any suggestions would be appreciated, thanks.

My recommends, some are just songs:

Red (I'll be picking up the new deluxe CD on Saturday!)
Project 86
Blindside
Falling Up
Brian "Head" Welch (former KoRn guitarist, now a Christian)
Mute Math (not hard but amazingly talented)
Manic Drive
We As Human (the song "Dead Man" is fantastic)
The Classic Crime ("Abracadavers" is a great song)
Seventh Day Slumber's "Burning Bridges" is not good for me to listen to while I'm driving but is one of my favorite songs.
P.O.D.
The Myriad (not hard but very, very good)

Like you, I'm always on the lookout for good, hard rock but without the metal sound and screaming in bands like Underoath and Demon Hunter. So many new bands seem to be going that way for some reason.

Welcome to the forums, btw. :-)

Hey thanks guys, thanks free for your trouble.

What album of Red would you suggest for a newbie?

*Sorry, see there is only 2 studio albums*

I'll get the first album "End of Silence" for a start.

Thanks again.

I agree with the screaming part, don't like it, sounds alot like pantera, etc...

Any of the band's I listed worth a try?

I didn't read your initial post closely enough. Other than Red, Kutless and Switchfoot I can't really comment on the sounds. Kutless is okay (their worship CD is pretty good) and Red rocks. I'm only familiar with the older Switchfoot stuff that was well played on the radio, but it was quite good.

I'm not too into Decyfer Down but I've heard a song ("Crash") that is on their upcoming CD that was pretty good. I'm not into the rest of them but have heard them all at some point or another. The best advice I can give is to listen to them on PureVolume, MySpace, or iTunes. MySpace is my favorite since most bands have links to several other bands. But you probably know all that anyway.

As I was typing this out I checked iTunes and Decyfer Down has a new 3 song EP out with "Crash". It's a pretty good song but the other two are a little mellow for me, so I bought "Crash".

Heh, Third Day is in a league of their own. Casting Crowns comes close though. ;)

I also like Switchfoot, Jeremy Camp and Newsboys.
