Bible Study So what happens if you are failing..?

Here is a parable Jesus told just to answer that. Everyone is welcome to respond to this parable and I welcome it.
What do you think of this parable?
Do you think Jesus means something else than the way I perceive it?
Any other comments you wish to say

Luk 16:1 And He also said to His disciples, There was a certain rich man who had a steward. And he was accused to him, that he had wasted his goods.
Luk 16:2 And he called him and said to him, What is this I hear about you? Give an account of your stewardship, for you may no longer be steward.
Luk 16:3 And the steward said within himself, What shall I do? For my lord is taking the stewardship away from me. I cannot dig; I am ashamed to beg.
Luk 16:4 I know what I will do, so that when I am put out of the stewardship they may receive me into their houses.
Luk 16:5 So he called every one of his lord's debtors and said; to the first, How much do you owe my lord?
Luk 16:6 And he said, A hundred baths of oil. And he said to him, Take your bill and sit down quickly and write fifty.
Luk 16:7 And he said to another, And how much do you owe? And he said, A hundred cors of wheat. And he said to him, Take your bill and write eighty.
Luk 16:8 And the unjust steward's lord commended him because he had done wisely. For the children of this world are in their generation wiser than the children of light.
Luk 16:9 And I say to you, Make friends by the mammon of unrighteousness for yourselves, so that when you fail, they may receive you into everlasting dwellings.

The unjust steward wasn't commended for being dishonest but for coming up with a wise solution. When the steward gets fired, he at least made friends with his creditors and one of them might hire them because he says,"I am resolved what to do, that, when I am put out of the stewardship, they may receive me into their houses.".

There are two interesting verses left out:

"If therefore ye have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will commit to your trust the true [riches]?"-Luke 16:11

"And if ye have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will commit to your trust the true riches?"-Luke 16:12

Romans 13:8 says,"Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law."

That is good, Sothenes. I am very glad you know your bible well. :)

Luke 19:2 And, behold, [there was] a man named Zacchaeus, which was the chief among the publicans, and he was rich.
Luke 19:3 And he sought to see Jesus who he was; and could not for the press, because he was little of stature.
Luke 19:4 And he ran before, and climbed up into a sycomore tree to see him: for he was to pass that [way].
Luke 19:5 And when Jesus came to the place, he looked up, and saw him, and said unto him, Zacchaeus, make haste, and come down; for to day I must abide at thy house.
Luke 19:6 And he made haste, and came down, and received him joyfully.
Luke 19:7 And when they saw [it], they all murmured, saying, That he was gone to be guest with a man that is a sinner.
Luke 19:8 And Zacchaeus stood, and said unto the Lord; Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor; and if I have taken any thing from any man by false accusation, I restore [him] fourfold.
Luke 19:9 And Jesus said unto him, This day is salvation come to this house, forsomuch as he also is a son of Abraham.
Luke 19:10 For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.

Sothenes said:
Luke 19:8 And Zacchaeus stood, and said unto the Lord; Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor; and if I have taken any thing from any man by false accusation, I restore [him] fourfold.

Jesus did not accuse his confession by saying he is bragging about it.

It is good to talk about good deeds. IMHO. All good deeds come from God.

Many people learn from others good deeds. If good Christians hide their good examples or deeds, how others can learn from them?

We should praise the Lord for all good deeds.

I think it is why you do good deeds. If you do good things to glorify God, then it is a good thing. If you do good deeds so you will get praised, then it is not. This is what the Bible says about it:

Mat 6:2 Therefore when you do your merciful deeds, do not sound a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, so that they may have glory from men. Truly I say to you, They have their reward.
Mat 6:3 But when you do merciful deeds, do not let your left hand know what your right hand does,
Mat 6:4 so that your merciful deeds may be in secret. And your Father who sees in secret Himself shall reward you openly.

I believe most serious Christians do good deeds because they know all good things come from God. they are just glorifying God.

So what happens if you are failing?

Hi ChristineES. I see this parable as one of many where Jesus was speaking about the Pharisees and Scribes who loved and were greedy for riches. From vs 1 Jesus is adressing his disciples, as a lesson for them, no doubt.

I would agree with Sosthenes remarks. Verse 9 has been troubling to me untill I did some more research. I believe it is a question by the Lord.
That if they make friends of the riches of unrighteousness, and then fail (to see or enter the kingdom), they will have only an age-lasting dwelling. The word "everlasting" AV, didn't make sense, but I saw the word in the Greek is "eonian" which means age-lasting, and can mean the length of one's life.

In addition to verses 11 & 12, I see the last sentence of 13 is the key to the whole parable: "Ye cannot serve God and mammon."

And look how the Pharisees reacted in vs 14: "And the Pharisees who were covetous, heard all these things, and they derided him."
