After the death of king Solomon the kingdom of Israel was split into two factions. All are considered Israel but two of the tribes, Judah and Benjamin (the house of Judah) remained under the rulership of the king of Judah, son of Solomon. The other ten tribes (the house of Israel), were loyal to the king of Israel, and didn't worship at the temple in Jerusalem.

Because of idolatry, the house of Israel was taken captive by Assyria. They never returned and are termed the lost sheep of the house of Israel. They, I strongly believe, are today's Christians. Two hundred years later the king of Babylon, Nebuchadnezzar took the house of Judah captive and destroyed the temple. Eventually they did return and rebuilt the temple, as discussed in Ezra and Nehemiah.

At the crucifixion of Christ...the veil was rent. It would never again be necessary for a priest to enter the holy of holies for us. When Christ died for our sins we are able to enter communication with Him through prayer.

In 70AD a Roman general, Titus, ransacked Jerusalem and the temple was destroyed. Or...the physical temple was destroyed. It was a dead temple standing, a pile of rubble even before he demolished it. Why? Because.....The true Temple was raised upon His resurrection!

  • 1 Corinthians 3:16-17 Know ye not that ye are the Temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? If any man defile the Temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the Temple of God is holy, which temple ye are.

Jeremiah 7:4 Trust ye not in lying words, saying, 'The temple of the LORD, The temple of the LORD, The temple of the LORD, are these.'
