Salt. You can't make much of anything without it. Here are some Bible verses.

Can food that is tasteless be eaten without salt?
Or is there any taste in the white of an egg? (Job 6:6 NET)

Salt is good (Mark 9:50 ESV)

Salt was also used on sacrifices and a "covenant of salt" was one that was permanent.
