Some positive things to say about the new board....

I know that this change has been fraught with bugs, irritations and downright maddening frustrations. I know that not all things are worked out yet.

But, I do have to say that, as I've been learning the new widgets and gee-gaws that come with this new format, there are things I positively like about this new board. I like the fact that we can use different fonts and sizes, something that I was never, ever able to do on the old board. Some of the features are more user-friendly, (after I figured out how to use them, that is). And, the look is good as well.

Also, whilst I'm being positive here, I positively want to thank Vic, Rick, Jeff, Pouring Rain, and all the rest of those who have been working hard to get this new board up and running. Y'all are doing a fantastic job and it's appreciated, it really is!

Hi Dora!

Yes, I do agree overall this move to VB should be a good one. It has some cool features (I know from other forums I'm on). However there are many differences between VB and phpbb which we have to adjust to. The way we had things set up there for eight years has to be transfered to a VB setup, and things have been setup for phpbb so we have to work on getting them to work as best we can in VB. It'll take a while, plus not much coopration from the developers is making life difficult. But hopefully good change will come out of this. The indexing problem that we had for the old site should be fixed with this move, so that's one positive to come out of this.

So to everyone, just stick around through the tough times and we should be back to normal hopefully soon. God bless!

Ya, it's a pretty good change, and I think we will all like it, once the bugs are worked out.

Apparently, if you type VB it gets all special with a question mark and dotted lines and stuff... Or maybe it only works for Nick.

I think that is a positive, if I can make it work for any word I want, which would make things easier.

:D
Actually that is pretty cool. It happens for everyone btw. There is probably a way to add more words to that, but that will have to wait I'm afraid.
This actually reminded me of your Bible brackets suggestion, Pard. I have a feeling VB [may] offer something, but we've got heaps of stuff to do before that.

Thanks Dora, we appreciate that! I'm not such a fan of bells and whistles if it doesn't enhance my studies, you know what I mean. ... and now I have to memorize each little icon above the message box. I got so used to buttons with titles.

To be honest, from an administrative POV, some features are lacking. No more deleting posts with one click of a button and no simple way of administering members and navigating seems to take more clicks that necessary. From my Tekkie POV, less work=efficiency.

I have to learn how to get the YouTube video embedding to work here, if it's even possible. Jeff and I got it to work on the old site very easily.

What can I say; I have a conservative streak and you know how conservatives resist change. LOL

Guys, I see no value in having a question mark and a balloon telling me what some initials stand for. I guess it's better than asking the poster what the initials mean. LOL Though, it looks like a marketing gimmick to me.

Hey. does anyone else see an AOL ad in Dora's post?

The Ad manager has a mind of it's own. I disable it and I see a Google ad. I enable it and I see an AOL Ad.

Aah, there is an "Insert Video" feature.

:thumbsup

It's a Google ad for me. Don't we have enough ads anyway without them appearing in peoples' posts?

Use Firefox with the Adblock Plus plugin installed, and you never have to see another ad again.

I can't use ABP because it interferes with how the site is rendered in the browser. It throws it into a non graphical mode, similar to threaded view. :shrug

Another good thing about the new format is that it makes me appreciate the other forums I write on a lot more.
