I'm the type of person who believes that there is so much significance in a letter that is handwritten. That's exactly why I choose to write my thank you cards like that and send them out in the mail that way and why I recently wrote my fiancée who is currently in prison a handwritten letter for his birthday along with his card so he could physically hold onto it along and maybe even store it underneath his pillow. The thing is that I'm afraid that there will come a day when I won't be able to do that anymore. I think that the only reason why mail carriers still have their jobs is because packages need to be sent out. Once they figure out a way to automatically get the job done, I think all of the post offices in the world will go out of buisness. In fact, with all the technology that we have in the world today, I'm rather surprised that that hasn't happened already.

Yeah, letters dont pay the post office Bill's any longer. Thankfully package delivery is way up.
We still send letters, but more often than not letters have been replaced with phone calls now that cell phones can call across the country without racking up hundreds of dollars.

Actually, I believe the number of letter sized items has diminished some but the number of packages has increased. The US mail now offers service to many areas 7 days a week, which was not done before. I know this stuff because my neighbor is a rural carrier and she has talked about how much more work it is with the number of packages she has to handle now.

Many of the big delivery services (FedEx, UPS, etc.) contract with the postal service for final delivery to speed up their efforts. They just have to take their packages to the local post office instead of going to each house and the USPS makes the final delivery.

There will be a market for mailed letters at least for the next couple generations. Too many people today feel the same way you do, so I don't think FedEx or UPS will stop in your lifetime.

And text!

No kidding. I made the comment last week to a teen that they dont talk on the phone anymore, it's just texting. She said yes she did, she talked on the phone.
I asked, to adults, or other teens?
You already know her answer lol!

That depends whether you mean actually talking on the phone (which would be with the adults) or texting (which would be with the other teens. I'm sorry, I was a bit confused by your post. Sorry it took so long for me to respond by the way, I had a bit of eye trouble. and I had to go lay down for a bit with my eyes closed :neutral

Yeah I realized I'm old when more than half my customers respond to text better than they do to a phone call ...

Besides packages there is junk mail.
That's a major portion of USPS income.

Nothing that we really need or want.

The government...taking what we want (tax dollars) and giving us what we don't. (Junk mail and politicians)

Well call me old fashioned and completely loony, but wouldn't talking on the phone be easier than texting? :chin

It's ironic to realize that we went from verbal communication only and then added the written word and then added telephone conversation and then added texting and then added voice dictated texting. Is it about time to come full circle yet and just communicate by voice?

i find it some easier send text .many hate talking on the phone. my self i had rather talk on the phone.. but when i just need simple answer text is ok. i have a nephew when his daughter was sick she sent him a text from her bed room to him in the same house ,,,,go figure

Well I don't text so I must say that I agree with you and my mother and I were just discussing the fact that once the drones start delivering our packages we're basically doomed. :nonono

That's Constitutional though, right? Of our tax dollars, for the politicians, and by junk mail. Isn't that the way it's supposed to be? It almost seems like something must be missing, but I can't imagine what that might be ...

Nope, and it's all my fault. I've never tried the voice dictated texting thing yet, having seen the horrendous results it's yielded for others, and the consequences that follow.
The technology KNOWS this, so it keeps us stuck here ... lol

I had someone point out to me that our cities are designed to have drones deliver everything to our door. I looked at what he was pointing out and saw that he was right. After that I can't imagine ever living in the city again.
