Son of God Movie Review

Check out my review on my personal blog: http://andrewsmason.com/son-of-god-movie-review/

Have you seen it? What did you think?

I have not seen it and I won't be going to a theater to see it. Would have to drive 130 miles one way at least and who knows when it will even be there.
I'm rather leary of it. I wasn't overly impressed with their mini series.
When I looked up where Roma is attending classes and who presided over her wedding, well I'm just leary.
I will go look at your review now......

Dear Brother Andrew, just watching a trailer I see the Magi at the manger scene, and know the writers have followed tradition instead of scripture as most Hollywood movies do. Am I against the movie? Not at all for anywhere Christ is mentioned Paul rejoiced. Php 1:18 What then? notwithstanding, every way, whether in pretence, or in truth, Christ is preached; and I therein do rejoice, yea, and will rejoice.

Would I pay to see it? No, and even on the trailer I found the acting to be very poor, at least to my taste. Blessings in Christ Jesus.

So now that I have read your review, I am much more likely to try to see it sooner than before. Not so leary.

I loved The Passion too, and if I had not seen it because of Mel's reputation I would have missed a wonderful movie.

The Passion only covered about 3 days in the ministry of Christ.

I read your review and watched the trailer. It seems very interesting, as a Christian and as a starting director, I am very interested in seeing that movie. I think it's not available in cinemas in my country but I think I will see it someday when it comes on BluRay.

P.S. can you make a review of a Christian Rock band called Stryper :) Would be interesting!

My Wife and I just saw the movie, "Son of God" We both thought that it was very well done! The Actor who played Jesus was excellent. Some of the Scripture that was quoted was not word for word, but very close. No one religion was presented so every Christian should be pleased. The scenes that played was very good and the way it should be.

The scenery was excellent and authentic. The Actress who played Mary, the Mother of Jesus did a superb job. All in all, I would recommend this movie. IMO, it was better than "The Passion". You definitely want to bring tissues especially near the end where Jesus goes on trial. All the Actors and Actresses did a great job with expressions and tone of voice. It was very real, and I compliment Roma Downing (sp) for her part in directing, and her Husband.

I'll be glad to hear other opinions as you see this movie.

Chopper, I'm interested in knowing why you think this is a better movie than The Passion. I've heard that Son of God is more about Christ's love, whereas The Passion is about His suffering and sacrifice. I look forward to seeing it.

I have been waiting on a big budget movie that follows the whole life of Jesus.

Hi there Mike, always good to hear from you. To me, the Passion went too far in the brutality of Jesus' suffering. Sure, I came away almost sick to my stomach as to His beatings. I have that movie and have shown it several times before a communion service....The movie Son of God, depicted segments of Jesus' complete life. Yes, love was definitely at the forefront. His suffering just before being crucified was very dramatic and between Jesus and His Mother Mary, I was crying, I noticed most in the theater were wiping their eyes. This movie, I'll never forget. I'm going to purchase a copy. I will watch it multiple times.

You know Mike, we all have different emotions and desires, every movie gets different reviews. I simply liked the overall presentation better than the Passion, that's just me. Maybe it takes a lot for this old soldier to cry, I had all I could do from bursting out wailing like a child. With the Passion, I was horrified.

I'm glad you're going to see it. Take your handkerchief or tissues with you, lol.

Love you Buddy!

Thanks for your reply, Chopper, I like your observations.

Let me tell you why I like The Passion particularly because of the graphic suffering. I think it's too easy for our modern Christianity to become too sanitized, disconnected from the pain and dirt and smells and ugliness that was Christ's suffering. It's too easy for us this far removed from Christ's sacrifice, sitting freshly showered, warm and comfortable in church, listening to feel good sermons, for us to lose the passion. Christianity can so easily become just an intellectual exercise we pay attention too for only a few hours Sunday morning. We need to not only understand Christ's message intellectually, we need to also experience it viscerally.

Will be going to see it with my friends from church next weekend.
Also want to see God is Not Dead. Heard this morning that it's great.

I agree.
Isa 52:14 As many were astonied at thee; his visage was so marred more than any man, and his form more than the sons of men (KJV)

Isa 52:14 As many were astonished at you—
his appearance was so marred, beyond human semblance,
and his form beyond that of the children of mankind— (ESV)

Isa 52:14 But many were amazed when they saw him.
His face was so disfigured he seemed hardly human,
and from his appearance, one would scarcely know he was a man. (NLT)

Yes, Yes my friend! You are absolutely right! I am really grateful to God for raising up people who can make these movies that are close to real. I have often thought of the Passion movie as I confess my sins. That particular movie, like no other, causes me to realize what a terrible cost to our Father and His Son. At the end of the Passion, I remember thinking, I would never do that for my enemies! I still can't believe that Almighty God could want me to fellowship with Him, and go to that extreme to make it happen.

Only the most amazingly loving God would do such a thing, even for those who hated Him.

A man may lay down his life for his own family, maybe a friend, but will he do that for his enemy?

And can it be that I should gain
An int’rest in the Savior’s blood?
Died He for me, who caused His pain?
For me, who Him to death pursued?
Amazing love! how can it be
That Thou, my God, shouldst die for me?
Amazing love! how can it be
That Thou, my God, shouldst die for me?
