Spiritual Gifts and the Church?

Timothy said:
What role should spiritual gifts play inside the church?

What exactly do you mean by this question? For we are all given different spiritual gifts. Some may just have one others many. We should do our best do discover what gifts we have been given and pray for guidance as how to best use them for Gods will. So don't get what you mean by what role they should play in the Church?

The 'protocol' for a healthy church was a five fold ministry, not a one fold ministry.

Ephesians 4:11: “And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers.â€Â

I don't understand the modern tradition of pulling one gift out of the above verse and eliminating the rest.
Can anybody post the scriptures that say all those gifts ended EXCEPT 'pastor'?

How many times is 'pastor' mentioned as the dominate gift over the churches in the new testament???

I think this question relates to

1 Corinthians 12:1 Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I would not
have you ignorant.

1 Corinthians 12:4  Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit.

and how to "organize them"or deal with in the church....?

Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good. Corinthians 12:
Gifts are given for the common good of the body. Within those gifts are servant leaders who are gifted in overseeing the body function in a structured healthy way.
“When you come together, everyone has a hymn, or a word of instruction, a revelation, a tongue or an interpretation. All of these must be done for the strengthening of the church.†12:26

I know this isn't going to be popular on this forum but...

Chapter14..
“Therefore, my brothers, be eager to prophesy, and do not forbid speaking in tongues. But everything should be done in a fitting and orderly way.†:smt045
I might add because of the day we are in.....Whats being preached from the pulpit will determine the spirit behind the gifts.

If the word is compromised or perverted, the gifts within that body will be also, for every orginal, satan has a counterfeit.

I know i'm getting a little long winded but I posted this on another forum and it pretty much sums it up for me as to what the 'ideal' corporate church body life should be like....

I think the church should be a place where the people of God are built up by one another through the unique gifts that God has invested in each member of the body.
I think there are pastoral gifts, but I don't think that always makes one a preacher.
I believe God ordained a 5 fold ministry so the church wouldn't be lacking, and would function in health.
I don't believe the tradition today of one man running the whole show is the new testament model...at all.
Of course leadership is necessary, but I don't believe in the 'lordship' leadership we see out there today.
I believe God wants servant leaders, those are the ones that make sure the whole body is funtioning in a healthy biblical way, giving every member room to use their gifts that are vital to the body as a whole, and to make sure the believers are being brought to maturity.
The churches mission as far as I can see is to build up the believers and put a solid biblically based foundation under them, and then send them out to make disciples...who in turn make disciples..kinda like a ripple effect. No one is suppose to be sitting stagnant and warehoused week in and week out.
This is just my idea of the ideal, but it's not reality.

I agree very much with strengthening of the church, coming from each
believer according to what was given to them. Also fully realize that
different members of the body have different gifts, and I include all here,
also tongues or an interpretation. Simply because I've experienced
some as coming from the Holy Spirit. I also was regarded "unsaved"
in another church because I insisited that not all members speak in
tongues. I especially hate the fake ones, but love the spirit of truth.

We all possibly heard the "body parts example" that goes something like
"because I'm a kidney, I think everyone should be a kidney" to the lung,
questioning if the lung even belongs to the body alltogether.

Who brings this under one reality? It has to be the Holy Spirit,
there needs to be acceptance of Jesus as the head of the body, otherwise
every organ splits and creates an 'organ-part-cults'. That's a main problem
that also creates all this splitter groups where Jesus is not the head
of the body anymore, but any clever "ism".

Ephesians 4:11: “And He Himself gave some to be apostles,
some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers.”

Well, the basic point is: True ministry MUST have its origin in heaven,
unless someone is called and sent, they should not even think about
to get up and start doing something.

So I'm not in favor of current apostolic or prophecy movement, I still
believe God picks them one by one. Pastors included, however some
think it's a college type of foundation that qualifies them.

I was thinking about the prophecy movement recently, and my honest
expectation is this: Unless God 'takes this planet with both hands' and
gives it a good shaking the 'half-good" and the 'half-bad' will cling
together and the flesh will dominate. As for the other ministries, it needs
a shaking and a breaking to bring forth the real ones, all our efforts and
movements will not amount to much, it's idealistic and ambitious and
"right" to do something big for God. But only what the Father initiates
the son actually can do. Everything else has no power or lasting reality.

Gifts, are good. In fact they're great. But they can be a terrible force if you are not using them for God. I don't think God will ever take away your gifting, but under certain circumstances that he will remove the annointing.

So I think gifts should play a role in the church, but the annointing of God is far more important.

For those wondering, here's what I was asking when I started the thread. Should churches make an effort to put it's bodies gift to their greatest, God-serving potential? I know many bodies that don't even teach the importance of knowing best how you serve God. Not just with the Special gifts he gives us, but the time we have, the money we earn.

Here's a little example of one possible problem:

Suppose a church is looking into hiring a person to serve as a fultime youth minister. However, tithing is not held to by the body so money is tight. The Church then decides that God's will is not to call a youth minister.

Not only is this body not using the physical gifts that God has given them, but they are not using their spiritual gifts as well.

So I guess I'm wondering just how much of a role should the Chruch play in devloping one's spiritual gifts and how much should one in return build up the church. i think answers are clear, if we look.
