Spiritual Pride in relatively sinless phases

We haven't sinned for a while. Ok by that I might mean:
We didn't miss Church
We avoided conflict with those close to us.
We had kind thoughts about others
We smiled more often, so being a support to others rather than a burden.

We start to think
" I'm doing well. I'm not a bad Christian after all. Hey my progress is great! God must be pleased"
This is actually a real danger period. I suspect God worries more about this phase than out really overt sinful phase. When we were wasting our life like the Prodigal Son.
We start to think we are special. One of God's chosen people. We are in fact likely to become the opposite. Turning others off the Christian message.
Humility is more elusive than we realise.

My book is due out in a couple of months. I need yet fear it's success/failure. I hope I am ready for either one. Pride is the beast I've fought all my life.
