Hello. I have 2 questions for anybody who knows how to answer this.

1. My first question is what exactly is a spiritual revival and can believing christians receive it more than once or is a spiritual revival for the unbelievers? Is it possible for a believing christian to be re-baptized by the holy spirit twice or more or is one baptism by the spirit once and final? A church I go to has revival nights and my question is if a christian does not need spiritual revival because he already believes and accepted christ and has the holy spirit, what is the point of revival nights?

2. My second question is do we receive the holy spirit upon confessing our sins and inviting and receiving Christ into our hearts or can the holy spirit come at a later date. I truly invited christ into my life and it has changed the way I act, but other than that I really dont think I feel the holy spirit. I am unsure if the way I speak is my own gibberish or truly the holy spirit. I also have a hard time understanding things and I though the holy spirit would clear up all that stuff for me. The reason why I am wondering is because the apostles did not receive the holy spirit immediately, they had to way till the day of the pentecost instead of receiving the holy spirit immediately. So what do you think, do we receive the holy spirt when we receive christ or do we receive the holy spirit at a later time?

I am moving this topic to Apologetics and Theology.

Spiritual revival is for ALL believers, and is especially edifying for new Christians, back-sliden Christians, and spiritually “dry†Christians who desire for a fresh outpouring of the Holy Spirit. Christians who desire greater anointing should also attend the event, but such revival meetings are not compulsory.

Scriptures clearly teach today that we receive the Holy Spirit the moment we receive Jesus Christ as our Savior.

John 14:16-17
And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor to be with you forever  the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you.

1 Corinthians 12:13
For we were all baptized by one Spirit into one bodyâ€â€whether Jews or Greeks, slave or freeâ€â€and we were all given the one Spirit to drink.

Ephesians 1:13-14
And you also were included in Christ when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation. Having believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God's possessionâ€â€to the praise of his glory.

Ephesians 4:30
And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.

Romans 8:9
You, however, are controlled not by the sinful nature but by the Spirit, if the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Christ.

Galatians 3:2-3
I would like to learn just one thing from you: Did you receive the Spirit by observing the law, or by believing what you heard? Are you so foolish? After beginning with the Spirit, are you now trying to attain your goal by human effort?

2 Corinthians 1:21-22
Now it is God who makes both us and you stand firm in Christ. He anointed us, set his seal of ownership on us, and put his Spirit in our hearts as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come.

However, filling of the Holy Spirit is a continual and ongoing process ... not a one-time thing.

Luke 11:11-13
"Which of you fathers, if your son asks for a fish, will give him a snake instead? Or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion? If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him !"

Ephesians 5:17-18
Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord's will is. Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit.

I'll make a few points and wait for response ;)

Unless God initiates spiritual revival in the heart of man, it is only a work of man.
There is only one baptism in the Holy Spirit.
There is no biblical support for inviting Christ into one's life.
Speaking in tongues is not THE evidence of being baptised in the Holy Spirit.
The apostles were instructed by Christ to wait for the Holy Spirit.
Receipt (baptism) of the Spirit is always at God's appointed time.
There is no formula for receiving the Spirit.

Agreed with the proviso that there are many fillings of the Holy Spirit. A spirit is "revived" by the filling up of a fresh infusion of grace. A person is first baptized (introduced) into the reality and spiritual walk, yes. But we are called to be always filled with the Holy Spirit. This life has a tendency of using up a Christian to the point where there is nothing apparent left. So then a revival is a fresh filling! :)

Mmmm - OK. I like to think of this ongoing filling of the Spirit to be an element of 'walking' in the Spirit. When we walk in the Spirit we walk as Jesus walked - in communion with and obedience to the Father. This is what makes us one with Him as Jesus prayed we would be.

Works both ways. Man must want it and God will give it.
How would man work a spiritual revival on his own ? .... :confused

While I agree with this , keeping the Holy Spirit and being filled with more of the Holy Spirit takes some "forumula" , I mean, effort ... :help

True! But at times we are overcome by the enemy or by our own failures and need a helping hand from God. We fail the grace we have been given. I can testify to some of my own personal revivals.....going from being basically done in, to on fire for Him. He lights a new fire, so to speak....or His holy wind quickens the almost dead embers that most, if not all would have thought had been extinguished. Calling out to God should be a daily occupation...but when we go too far on the same tank...we might need a refilling. :P

In Acts 19:3 after Paul found out that some disciples did not receive the Holy Spirit; he asked them, then what were you baptized into? And they said into John's Baptism. Then Paul told them that John indeed baptized with a baptism of repentance, saying to the people that they should believe on im who would come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus. When they heard this they were baptized into the name of Jesus and they received the holy spirit and spoke in tongues. I disagree that we must wait for the holy spirit because it goes against this scripture.

The moment we accept Jesus, he baptises us by his holy spirit into him and we become part of his body. If we have to wait for the Holy spirit, than we also cannot become part of the body of Christ right away because we have not been baptized into it which means we also must wait for salvation. Jesus saves the moment we have faith and believe. Like Paul said, if we did not receive the holy spirit when we call on the name Jesus, then what baptism did we receive?
