Stale Marriage and Successful Parenting

Communication, communication and listening, listening and seeing expressions.

Do we really share with each other, do we just go through the motions.

If I could elevate anything in the Body of Christ, it would be marriage. I think everything flows from marriage. (familywise) There are certain things out there that are getting attention and it is merely distraction. Meanwhile, divorce is not a big deal in society. Also, making a concerted effort to keep your marriage together while having genuine love and affection for each other.

Communication, communication and listening, listening and seeing expressions.

Do we really share with each other, do we just go through the motions.
My wife and I got in that rut many years ago. It's so easy to do when your working 50 hours a week, then spending your home time running the kids to all of their activities, oh, then helping other people in need and too broke to spend money on each other for a nice date night. It's just too easy to take a marriage for granted.

I think God has a way of pulling us back to center and I can boast that after 22 years, our marriage has never been better than it is right now and we both give that credit to God and the word that's been planted in our hearts.

The Miracle of God’s Word

Proverbs 31:12
She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life.

The virtuous woman the man should be looking for is described here in this portion of Scripture, and should be his criteria for a wife, and it should also be the criteria for the woman to be for her husband. I think we should realize that far beyond the natural picture here, we should be seeing that overall, this is a picture of what Christ came to give His Life for. A bride that is virtuous, serving only Him, and that can carry out His plan in the earth today.

As we are being changed and transformed by the Holy Spirit through faith in the cross of Christ, for there is no other way, we will find ourselves more in love with our Husband (Romans 7:4), and bringing forth the fruit of our virtuous relationship! Praise the Lord for His wondrous cross in that He offered Himself for us so that He could be ours forever and forever!

The Miracle of God’s Word

Proverbs 31:13
She seeketh wool, and flax, and worketh willingly with her hands.

The virtuous wife seeks the materials needed to work with her own hands WILLINGLY to be able to provide things needed for the husband and their home. The culture has drastically changed from the way the people lived in that day compared to the day in which we live, but nevertheless, the virtuous woman will continue to WILLINGLY do her part in providing for things needed for the home. Many religious folks use Scripture to avoid work, but here we see the virtuous woman will be found working due to Scripture.

There is no laziness, nor slothfulness IN CHRIST, as the Children of God have been ordained to walk in good works (Ephesians 2:10), and if we are walking IN CHRIST, we will be carrying out the good works of the virtuous Bride of Christ. Scripture should be looked at as countless opportunities for us to be led by the Holy Spirit into more and more Truth, for here we find the greatest blessings and Christ being glorified (John 16:13-14). Whatever excuses that will not stand at the Judgment Seat of Christ should not be made today by us. Let us serve our great Husband and King Jesus!

The Miracle of God’s Word

Proverbs 31:10
Who can find a virtuous woman? For her price is far above rubies.

The instructions from King Lemuel’s mother continue as she gives her son the wisdom of God. The first step in looking for a virtuous woman is to first have received proper instructions of which women to avoid. Wow! The flesh of sinful man will always go after that which is bad for him, but thanks be to God for Jesus Christ, that the born again men can have the wisdom of God and the Spirit of God to lead them.

The price of a virtuous woman, which refers to a woman of valor, one which is of any resources including strength, is FAR ABOVE rubies. To have a virtuous wife from the Lord is to have a good thing (Proverbs 18:22), and that good thing is FAR ABOVE any material earthly riches. The marriage of a Christian man and his wife are to express Christ and His relationship with His church in their relationship to all that know them (Ephesians 5). This will take place as both refuse to trust in anything other than Christ and what He did for them at the cross so that we can both be His bride (Romans 7:4).

Proverbs 31:11
The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil.

The heart of a husband who can trust in his wife as the virtuous woman the Lord has made and called her to be for him, will have no need of spoil, which refers to gain outside of what she can provide as a good wife. Oh the joy of a man who has this virtuous woman. This woman is FAR ABOVE all earthly treasures, because she causes the heart of her husband to safely trust in her as the wife God has given him.

As we look at the relationship Christ desires to have with His church, we see there the example for all marriages. Men are told to love their wives as Christ loved the church and gave Himself for it (Ephesians 5:25), and the wives are told to submit to their own husbands as unto the Lord (Ephesians 5:22-24). The virtuous woman is to be the woman the man searches for, and when he finds her, his heart will rejoice as to the gift of the Lord. We as the children of God are to be the virtuous bride of Christ to bring forth the fruit of our relationship with Him (Romans 7:4). Faith in the cross of Jesus Christ will allow the Holy Spirit to legally carry out the wonderful will of our Heavenly Father in our lives.

The Miracle of God’s Word

Proverbs 31:14
She is like the merchants' ships; she bringeth her food from afar.

The virtuous wife brings the food needed from afar, and is here related to the merchants’ ships, which transport materials needed from one coast or country to another. The virtuous wife is obviously the wife that should be sought after by any man, and any wife should seek after this way of life for her husband and family.

Again, we should be seeing the greater picture without excusing the reality of this type of woman in the home, and that is for us as the Children of God to be the virtuous Body of Christ toward Him daily. He has given us access to all things by His wonderful grace, and through faith in His sacrifice at Calvary alone, therefore when faith is right, the benefits will be the experience of His marvelous grace.

The Miracle of God’s Word

Proverbs 31:15
She riseth also while it is yet night, and giveth meat to her household, and a portion to her maidens.

The instruction continues from King Lemuel’s mother to him concerning the wisdom of God when looking for the right wife, which God calls a virtuous woman. This woman will get up before daybreak to make sure her household is fed, and also anyone who is working for her household. The virtuous woman does not have to be talked into these things or made to do them, but has this special love and care in her heart and is a part of who she is.

We as the Bride of Christ have been given a new heart, and called unto this place of virtue (2 Peter 1:3-5). We can learn to walk in this place of virtue as we cling to the One who loved us and gave Himself for us (Galatians 2:20) so that He could be our Husband, and we could bring forth the fruit (Romans 7:4) of our union with Him.

The Miracle of God’s Word

Proverbs 31:16
She considereth a field, and buyeth it: with the fruit of her hands she planteth a vineyard.

The virtuous woman sees a field, considers what benefit it could be for her household, purchases it, and with her own hands she plants a vineyard and watches over the fruit of her own hands. This virtuous woman longs to provide for her house and is steadfast in doing so. Not for rewards, but simply because is the fruit of a virtuous woman to see her house blessed.

Again, this is symbolic also of the Body of Christ, which is the Bride of Christ (Romans 7:4), and we have been called unto glory and virtue (2 Peter 1:3-5). The knowledge we have of Christ, and are willing to walk in, and grow by THE faith in His finished work at Calvary will determine our experience of this virtue which we are called unto. We are a virtuous bride for our Christ, therefore let us bring forth the fruits of being married to Him.

The Miracle of God’s Word

Proverbs 31:17
She girdeth her loins with strength, and strengtheneth her arms.

The virtuous woman that King Lemuel is being instructed by God through his mother to search for, girds her loins with strength, and strengthens her arms, which speaks of her vigor and integrity to serve. In this study I am seeing how this virtuous woman is really pointing to the virtuous Bride of Christ, and the attributes of the virtuous woman found in Proverbs 31 should be the fruit of the Church as we serve with strength and integrity afforded us through our Husband and King Jesus (Romans 7:4). The very love and virtue we have was shed abroad in our hearts when we trusted in Christ (Romans 5:5).

Jesus gave His Life for a people that would become His Bride. Just as God put Adam to sleep in the Garden and brought forth a bride from his rib, He also through the sleep of the Last Adam’s death on the cross brought forth a Bride for His Last Adam. I’m so glad to be married to Jesus, for this is the only place where God can be pleased and glorified. Thank God for the cross, for it was there God reconciled a people to Himself, and there alone He betrothed us (2 Corinthians 5:19, Ephesians 1:4) to His Son. Today, we await our Husband and King who is preparing a place for us, and the beauty of what He is preparing is far beyond what we can contain in our minds. He is coming soon!

The Miracle of God’s Word

Proverbs 31:18
She perceiveth that her merchandise is good: her candle goeth not out by night.

The virtuous woman understands that what she has obtained through wisdom and integrity is good, and her candle not going out by night speaks of her assurance that the work of her hands will prove faithful through the night and again tomorrow.

It is so wonderful to recognize the virtuous woman being described by King Lemuel’s mother pointing far ahead to the church, which is the virtuous bride of Christ. As our faith remains in our Husband, Jesus Christ, and His atoning work for us at the cross, His grace causes us daily to look for His appearing (Titus 2:13), while we walk in the virtuous works He has called us unto (Ephesians 2:10, 2 Peter 3:1-5). He is about to come and take us home, rewarding each one for the work of their hands (Matthew 16:27). Oh, let us be found as the virtuous and wise virgin bride awaiting our Lord, and not the foolish who will surely be left behind. Cling to the old rugged cross so that oil may be in your lamp, and your Light will shine ahead!

The Miracle of God’s Word

Proverbs 31:19
She layeth her hands to the spindle, and her hands hold the distaff.

She never ceases to serve and to work for her husband and family, which speaks of the Bride of Christ working to magnify Him, and taking care of the household of faith. Her hands hold to the distaff which is that which maintains the materials needed to make clothing and other things which require the material to be spun. She is faithful to provide that which is needed for others.

Pride is self centered, while humility is others centered, and we see the virtuous woman constantly working for the benefit of others, and reckons the joy of it all as her reward. Oh what great joy it is to serve the Lord Jesus Christ, and through each temptation to slow down or to quit, we see His faithfulness for us, which is that which allows us to have the virtue we have been called unto (2 Peter 1:3-5). Praise Jesus for His everlasting love for His bride. Today we work, for tomorrow He comes!!

The Miracle of God’s Word

Proverbs 31:20
She stretcheth out her hand to the poor; yea, she reacheth forth her hands to the needy.

This virtuous woman that King Lemuel’s mother is instructing him to search for so that his life and kingship can flourish as it should, is an overall picture of the virtuous Bride of Christ. Not only does she tend to the things of her husband, her handmaids, all of her household, but even those who are poor and needy. This further’s the idea that the virtuous woman here mentioned is concerning the Church, as we are to not only to be ministering to each other, but to those outside of the faith, and those who are poor and needy.

Jesus became poor so that we could become rich with His grace and mercy. When we are learning of the grace and knowledge of our Husband, Jesus, we will begin to experience all that He died for us to be able to have. While we trust today in His sacrifice, which is what made us who we are, and has given us what we have in Him, we will learn to walk in the traits of this virtuous woman in all her ways, and will be found expressing our King more and more!

The Miracle of God’s Word

Proverbs 31:21
She is not afraid of the snow for her household: for all her household are clothed with scarlet.

This virtuous woman which King Lemuel is being instructed by God through his mother to search for will not be controlled by fear due to the snow surrounding them in winter because the correct provision for the needed garments have been prepared ahead of time. The clothing that has been prepared for ALL her household is the clothing of scarlet. I’m sure this speaks of a certain type of material and dyes made for winter attire, but for you and me today, this speaks of the garment of righteousness which is because of the blood of Jesus being shed for us through His death.

We have been equipped and clothed with His beautiful linen garment of righteousness, therefore we are not fearful of not having what we need in every season of our lives. We are the virtuous Bride of Christ and have been provided everything we need through His sacrifice, therefore let us be found walking in every good (2 Timothy 2:21, Titus 3:1, Hebrews 13:21) work we have been called to. Praise be to the Lamb of God today and forever.

The Miracle of God’s Word

Proverbs 31:22
She maketh herself coverings of tapestry; her clothing is silk and purple.

This virtuous woman we are reading about in the last chapter of Proverbs I believe to be a picture of the Bride of Christ, as all the descriptions of her integrity, honor and hard work only reflect her love for her king. She recognizes not only her blessed state, but without end desires everyone else that her life touches to be blessed as well. This is the very spirit of Christ, and what His work on the cross reveals to us. He did everything that He did for others. This same Spirit that was in Christ, our great and mighty King, is within us today.

We have been given all spiritual blessings (Ephesians 1:3), but not to selfishly pile up for ourselves, but to see that others are blessed as well. Her clothing is silk and purple, which speaks of the royalty of her King and her family. She doesn’t dress to boast in who she is, but rather that others will see the blessings of grace that flow through her life with virtue. Everyone of us as God’s children have been called unto virtue (2 Peter 1:3-5), and though our lives will be very different materially, who we are and what we have in our Lord Jesus Christ is the same, and we are called to walk in these good and virtuous works (Ephesians 2:10).

The Miracle of God’s Word

Proverbs 31:23
Her husband is known in the gates, when he sitteth among the elders of the land.

The virtuous woman has a husband who is known in the gates, which speaks of the place where all judgment was carried out in the city by those who walked in authority. Her husband sits among the elders of the land operating with the authority to make proper judgment among the people. Even though this last chapter of Proverbs can be used by women who desire to be virtuous, or the man who would seek for a virtuous bride, we need not overlook it’s greater picture. This last chapter of Proverbs I believe reveals the church as the virtuous Bride of Christ, who is called unto virtue (2 Peter 1:3-5), through faith in the blood of her Husband (Romans 7:4) to bring forth the fruit of this new union with Him.

Through faith in the work of Christ at the cross, God has given us to His Son as a Bride, and this Bride is being conformed into the very image of her Husband (Romans 8:29). He is today preparing a place for His Bride (John 14:2) while she is making herself ready (Revelation 19:7-8) to meet Him at the marriage banquet dressed in the fine linen of His Righteousness. These garments we are wearing have been dipped in His blood, and are very drab to the world and most of what is called the church today, but we wear them in humility as we await our soon coming Lord, whose vesture will also be dipped in blood, and His name is the Word of God (Revelation 19:13). Come back to the cross today and make yourself ready to meet Him!

The Miracle of God’s Word

Proverbs 31:24
She maketh fine linen, and selleth it ; and delivereth girdles unto the merchant.

The virtuous woman works with her own hands (1 Corinthians 4:12), just as the church is called to do. The Body of Christ is seen in this description of the Virtuous woman which Christ died to make His own. The church is called to be about their Father’s business just as this virtuous woman is about her business tending to the things of her husband, her family, the poor, and in the process she is dealing with many peoples.

Today, many have waxed cold from love due to the iniquity abounding in their own hearts (Matthew 24:12), and every excuse is in their hearts as the scriptures are twisted to fit the comfort of their own lives. The virtuous woman does not call her own fleshly desires the desires the Lord has given her, but her delight is truly in the Lord and He gives her the very desires of her heart (Psalm 37:4). When these desires are expressed, they will look like this virtuous woman written of here in this last chapter of Proverbs, and are the very expression of the love and virtue that fills her heart by the Holy Spirit because of her faith in the sacrificial work at Calvary, for surely this virtuous life is one of sacrifice!
