I have a few tricks up my sleeves to keep me healthier, but in actuality I ALWAYS do this stuff to boost the immune system. I am rarely sick and when I am it occurs when I slack off in some way. Here's some of the things I supplement a lot on:
Beta-carotene: Helps with resistance. I eat my raw veggies and carrots.
B-complex and vit C: Again, that helps with stress and resistance. It is important to especially get extra folic acid found in foods like OJ, green leafy vegetables and the like (thus the name). With the new healthcare bill trying to get passed, I am often worried that they will limit the dosages of vitamins (like this worldly system wants all of us dummied down to their sub-standard conditions again being jealous of the God-ordained nation this has become). But, in reality, this has already passed, at least with folic acid. So, I take many times more than the legal dose in a pill but it just makes for extras and thus breaking the law. But remember to get it in healthy foods as well, and eat your fruits.
Cholesterol: Cholesterol is good for healthy immune system, and helps protect again diseases such as heart disease and cancer. I take Cholecalciferol although the body does not absorb it in pills well. It's best to get this vitamin from sunlight which converts the cholesterol. In addition, I eat lots of meat and eggs--- saturated fats are important, too.
Vitamin E: Again, Oily things like olive oil, nuts and other such fats contain vitamins E, and again egg yolks. If you take it in pill form, remember to use "d-alpha tocopheryls" (and other tocopheryls are helpful) and not just "dl" which is the cheaper artificial type. Vitamin supplements should not be chemically made pills, but concentrated extracts from foods.
Salt: I use Jewish Kosher salt. :D Picks me up, balances the Potassium and makes me feel better. Everything I make I salt. This is an important mineral the body needs.
Minerals in general: I specialize on Calcium, Magnesium, Zinc and Selenium, but I have a good multivit that gives others as well such as Chromium, Iodine and so forth.
Alcohol: I have to work on this yet, as I tend to drink the wrong kinds. (Natural) Beer and wine is healthy, but right now I'm drinking gin and coke. Shame on me. :D Drinking alcohol always reduces the Blood pressure and relaxes one. However, I would not get too upset over BP numbers, especially since most of the population it's higher at the doctor's office. I am of the old school of thought that 140/90 or less is fine. And the WHO actually stated 160/100 or less is OK (but just to watch it) until pressured by (I am supposing) drug companies who now say that 120/80- is "high". Bunk!
Besides all these nutrients, get fresh air and water as well, and you should be healthy.
What about exercise? Don't be a joggoholic. A few minutes of walking a day, or better yet, good hard outdoor work like I do at times is best. The body was made to work on things or do outdoor work, not just run in circles. Cut some logs, build a nice, country cabin is an excellent example of work. That's what the body is meant to do, and I guarantee one will see such a person smiling while doing that sort of work. However, has anyone here seen a "smiling jogger"? They aren't smiling 'cause they "hafta" do it instead of wanting to do it. And I've seen more and more dropping over dead these days because they were on a "healthy,"low sodium" "low fat" diet. Incredible.
