staying up late

I have a bad habit of staying up late. I've even stayed up all night a few times. This causes a lot of problems for me.
If I didn't stay up as late as I do, I would have almost no problem getting all my work done in a timely manner. I know because I was doing fantastic with it for a while.


However in the end I just keep getting back into that bad habit. Even though it is against the rules, technically. I'm allowed to be up until 2:30 at the latest (I seem to be able to run on less sleep than most people), and if I follow that rule it works out fine.
Lately I end up staying up way later than that. =/ I'm trying to get a job, but with this habit I'm going to end up screwing myself over.
 
Wow. I have the same problem. The latest that I have stayed up before with absolutely no sleep is from about 8am or so to 12pm (28 hours). I'm also looking for a job and for some reason come up with onvoluted schemes for my sleeping pattern. I think that I can work from 8am to 7pm, come home, go to bed at about 8pm and get up when I've had enough sleep. I can stay up really late but I can also sleep for a long time too. The average amount of time that I sleep when I don't have to get up for anything is about 12 hours. :lol
 
Now it looks like my 13 year old brother is following my example. Ugh. >.<
He's been up to like 4, 5 AM these past few nights. I'm going to have to tell on him or something.
(I fell asleep while reading around 9 or 10 this evening, woke up a few times around 2 AM, and finally just woke up completely at 4 AM. That's why I saw him.)

A friend suggested low-dose melatonin. I'll look into it.

Ha. Story of the last two years for me! :lol

I'm usually in be for about 2-2:30am. I'm trying for midnight now, as my body clock is a bit too messed up. I got to uni late this morning :gah

Getting up before 8am is definately too early for me, lol.
 
It's bad habits like this that make me think...how in the heck am I supposed to be able to survive in the adult world, especially since I'm getting older and have to be taking on more responsibilities? Ugh. Why does self-discipline have to be so hard?:shame2

Should I wait until I get this problem straightened out, or will having a job maybe give me extra motivation to get rid of the problem?
I'm told now is a good time to be looking for jobs, at least in my area, as several businesses are hiring.

Admittedly I've not put much effort into finding a job lately. Partly because I'm worried that my habit of staying up late will interfere with it too much and I'll end up getting into trouble. (Also because I'm not exactly sure how I'm going to fit schoolwork in.)

I have done work before, volunteer work at the local animal shelter. Basically, I cleaned cages and did other things to clean up, sometimes took one or two of the dogs outside for a short walk and brushed the cats once the cleanup work was over.
I volunteered there on a regular basis for about seven, maybe eight months. Did what I was told, didn't have any problems. The people there seemed to like me, actually.
The only problem I really had was that I found that I really didn't like getting up at 7:30 AM to go there. (That's not why I stopped, though. I stopped mainly because of personal issues at the time.)



I probably worry too much. Especially because I'm a bit sleep-deprived at the moment.:bigfrown And I tend to be a worrywart. I can't help but be afraid of messing up. Sometimes I feel like the least capable person on earth.
I know that's not true, but it's hard not to feel that way sometimes. I'm entering unfamiliar territory here, and it both scares and fascinates me.
