Strange Interpretation of Christianity

Hello everyone, first time poster here.:)

What has prompted me to finally create an account and post a thread is a very strange local news report that i happened to see on the television.

The news report was looking into a strange new religious group reportedly originating from Mableton, a small town just outside of Atlanta, Georgia. This group believes that a person can find God through the consumption of their favourite foods :chin. During the report several group members were interviewed, all of them stating that they were christian.

I would love to get some feedback on what you all think of this strange adaptation of our religion. I'm not sure what to think.

Thank you in advance :)

I consumed my favorite food of ice-cream for many years, how come that didn't lead me to Christianity ?? :confused :dunno

But if God wants to use food to draw people, then You go God !!

Hi, diet is a 'doctrine' of its own. even 'some' sound minded non/Christian ones want to live healthy. And there have been many reached this way! One dear soul who used to use a walker a number of years back, now gets around well & even drives + living alone.. at 92! And this is all due to God's health message. Surely this ex/school teacher is not one of just a few Christians!:thumbsup

†. Rom 14:2-3 . . One man's faith allows him to eat everything, but another man, whose faith is weak, eats only vegetables. The man who eats everything must not look down on him who does not, and the man who does not eat everything must not condemn the man who does, for God has accepted him.

†. Rom 14:17-18 . . For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking, but of righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit, because anyone who serves Christ in this way is pleasing to God and approved by men.

†. 1Cor 8:8 . . But food does not bring us near to God; we are no worse if we do not eat, and no better if we do.

†. Col 2:16 . . Do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink

†. 1Tim 4:1-5 . .The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons. Such teachings come through hypocritical liars, whose consciences have been seared as with a hot iron. They forbid people to marry and order them to abstain from certain foods, which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and who know the truth. For everything God created is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving, because it is consecrated by the word of God and prayer.

The above passages tell me that religions based upon diet are (1) demonic, (2) weak in faith, (3) sanctimonious, (4) judgmental, and (5) displeasing to God.

I don't meant to single anyone out; but I once heard a preacher tell of some people who bragged that they were strict vegetarians in accordance with man's diet in the very beginning. Well, the preacher popped their bubble by pointing out that not only did God include meat in man's diet after the Flood subsided, but that those antediluvian vegans all perished in the deluge; and according to 1Pet 3:19-20 they're all in lock-up even as we speak.

Hi, lovingly/per/post only, what ones say's means nothing to what God's WORD say, right?

We see Peter who had a THREE TIME VISION from God Himself say 'NOT SO LORD'!? Three times mind you, and the problem was not the VISION, but Peter KNEW THAT GOD DOES NOT CONTRADICT HIMSELF! So, what does mankind take from this?? Gomread Jer. 17:5.. or maybe your post??;)

Heb.
[8] Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.

And take note that Peter's vision did note say that Peter had been wrong!:thumbsup

PS: With todays 2 Cor. 4:2 'twistings' of Christ's Word, one could & would eat + 'drink' anything, even kool/aid as did those of the Johnstown DEAD ONES.

Do they mean 'find God' as in make peace with him in salvation? Or, 'find God' as in experience him and his goodness in this life?

I will most definitely argue for the latter.

Hi Jacob,

Finding God through the consumption of food? Did they say what kind of food we should be eating so that we could find God? I haven't read anything in the Bible that says if you eat a certain way, you will discover God. Food doesn't teach us about Jesus Christ and the redemption through His sacrifice. As far as Peter and his vision that Elijah674 mentioned, I think that was more about Peter's prejudice against Gentiles. Although an argument could be made that we should take care of our bodies by eating well, the motivation to eat to find God would be not good. We should be motivated to eat well to take care of our bodies because we love God and desire to be good stewards.
