Sun will be darkened, moon will turn blood red

What God gave His prophets to write about the coming end of this earth age, the New Testament writers also continued. That doesn't mean it was fulfilled in their days, nor the days of the OT prophets. This is why Apostle Peter told us to be mindful of what God's Old Testament prophets were given to write. The reason is because a lot of events written in the OT prophets has still not happenned even today.

2 Pet 3:1-14
1 This second epistle, beloved, I now write unto you; in both which I stir up your pure minds by way of remembrance:
2 That ye may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us the apostles of the Lord and Saviour:
3 Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts,
4 And saying, "Where is the promise of His coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation."

Apostle Peter reveals a certain deception by some in the last days concerning what the OT prophets were given to write about the end of this earth age we've been in (Isaiah 24 & 25 would make a good study on some events yet to come today compared to Peter's Message here). Peter shows there would come scoffers in the last days, mocking the idea of Christ's literal second coming and declaring the creation continuing like it has.

5 For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water:
6 Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished:

These "scoffers" Peter says, are "willingly ignorant" of the events when God first established His creation of old, and then by it being overflowed by water, it perished. It's not a small thing to want to be ignorant of that fact. No mystery then, that those scoffers also choose to treat those literal events that happened like it was some fairy tale, or some literary device, like God's Word is not about His Truth, but like some man's book of poetry or philosophy.

7 But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.

The "scoffers" are "willingly ignorant" when God brought waters of a flood upon this earth long ago. They also are willingly ignorant of this coming destruction of this present earth age by fire in the future.

8 But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.
9 The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

The very reason why this present earth age has been allowed to last so long, before the time of God's destruction of it by fire in our future, is that our Heavenly Father is long-suffering toward us, not wanting any soul to perish, but that we ALL would come to repentance. Our lack of patience can't be compared to His great patience with all the evils going on in today's world.

Nevertheless, like His promise, He has said He will indeed one day bring the destruction of this present earth age we're still in today, "the heavens and the earth, which are now".

10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.

Our Heavenly Father first gave this promise of the destruction of "the heavens and the earth, which are now" back in the Old Testament prophets. That's why Peter admonished us Christians to be mindful of what God's holy prophets had written. They covered this coming event, which is still future to us. And here Peter is covering it again in the New Testament.

11 Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness,
12 Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?

So what manner of conversation are we Christians to have concerning that coming event? Are we to be "willingly ignorant" of it like the "scoffers"? No. We are to always keep that coming event in our minds and hearts to know it is coming, because for those in Christ Jesus that event is about His return to this earth and our gathering to Him, The Salvation He promised us which is to have real substance, and not just a spiritual state of mind, but real peace on earth in His de facto Presence ruling over all the earth.

13 Nevertheless we, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.
14 Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of Him in peace, without spot, and blameless.
(KJV)

We know we aren't in that "new heavens and a new earth" time yet. But we are to wait for it, because The LORD promised it to His servants in Christ Jesus. And we are not to be "willingly ignorant" of these literal changes that God has worked on this earth before, and will yet once more, this last time being a destruction by His consuming fire (see end of Hebrews 12 also).

The Book of Revelation says that the sun will be darkened and the moon will turn blood red and the stars will not give their light. Does anybody else think that this sounds like a major asteroid impact which is biblical see
Revelation 8:8 ( The second angel sounded his trumpet, and something like a huge mountain, all ablaze, was thrown into the sea. A third of the sea turned into blood,).

This event could also be caused by a nuclear bomb, or a volcanic explosion.

Thanks Lee100. I think Revelation 8:7-12 authenticates the appalling spectacle of an intercontinental nuclear exchange. You can click the following links to learn about the devastating potential of nuclear weaponry:

no neither of the above
if you read it carefully ,you will see its a meteor, ablaze as it enters the atmosphere and goes into the sea, a volcanic eruption would come out of the sea and the description does not fit a nuke

I believe Christ's coming will include a period of darkness and the moon turning to blood, in Jerusalem where He returns. The sky was darkened near midday when He was crucified. That could point to an eclipse in that area of Jerusalem as a sign.

so far i believe this is two fold, that it is physical and spiritual. but i dont believe it has anything to do with astreroids.

the spiritual of it is that the sun moon and stars speaks of Gods people who are lights to the world, they are spiritually for signs and seasons just like the real physical ones are to the world. at the end when the time for His wrath is come, we will no longer be a light to them but we will be darkness to them. It is given to us to judge the world and send forth Gods wrath upon the wicked world after the tribulation is over and the Day of the Lord the time of His wrath is darkness and not light unpon them. Now we are a light of the Lord to them, but then we will be darkness and not light to them, when salvation is cut off and all that exists for them at that point is wrath poured forth from God by us onto them.At this point we will be with the Lord in the air.( the differnce of stars moon and sun as it relates to Gods people are the three fold fruit and glories of celetial bodies, those who brought forth 100 fold=sun 60=moon stars=30, each will be rewarded by God and made ruler over what He brought forth and was faithful with).

i also believe that itis possible and likely that this will physically happen as well but i do not think it will be by asteroid.

Its way worse than an asteroid .......its a brown dwarf star the size of Jupiter which is 1300 times the size of Earth and 6000 - 18,000 times the mass of Earth ,what turns the Moon blood red is the billions of tons of iron dust it drags along with it and guess what its close and I mean real close
this will show you how close http://www.youtube.com/user/highwic

There's also a parallel in Revelation with the plagues upon Egypt in the days of Moses.

Our Lord's Book of Revelation does something unique in how it covers things too. Look at this...

Rev 8:7
7 The first angel sounded, and there followed hail and fire mingled with blood, and they were cast upon the earth: and the third part of trees was burnt up, and all green grass was burnt up.(KJV)

Rev 9:4
4 And it was commanded them that they should not hurt the grass of the earth, neither any green thing, neither any tree; but only those men which have not the seal of God in their foreheads.
(KJV)

The Revelation 9 chapter is right after those Rev.8 descriptions. The Rev.9:4 example forces us to reconsider how that Rev.8:7 verse is meant, don't you think? Those verses aren't contradicting each other. It's only that the later Rev.9 example is showing us what ideas are really meant. This is why I believe there's a relation with the events of the vials along with the trumpets.

Rev 16:3-4
3 And the second angel poured out his vial upon the sea; and it became as the blood of a dead man: and every living soul died in the sea.
4 And the third angel poured out his vial upon the rivers and fountains of waters; and they became blood.
(KJV)

Comparing all those examples, what's the verdict? Definitely God's judgment. But those examples have to also be compared with the rest of the descrptions in their specific chapters too. The main Message I get, because of the locust army in the Rev.9 example of their not being allowed to hurt any green thing, is the whole matter is especially about spiritual decepiton. The only ones the locusts are allowed to sting are those NOT sealed with God's seal. And our Lord Jesus in Rev.17:15 said "waters" represent peoples, nations, multitudes, and tongues, i.e. peoples.

If you study Revelation more deeply, you'll discover the tribulation it speaks of involves a time of world peace on earth, not all out world war three, nor the coming of some giant asteroid. In 1 Thess.5 Apostle Paul said that when they shall say, "Peace and safety", then sudden destruction will come upon them. The Armageddon event happens when Christ returns to fight with His angels, when He shall subdue all the kings of the earth, and take over all kingdoms on this earth. That event will take place very quickly.
