[Leviticus 19:29]

You will get a lot of heat for this I imagine but I admire your conviction and I agree with you.

I think anything can be an idol, whether it's inherently evil or not. For me, I don't understand the fascination with sports. The only sports I've ever been interested in were canine sports, such as conformation ("dog shows"), Frisbee, or agility. I even trained my dogs on some agility equipment.

I did watch the game tonight, mainly because I was at a party. I'm kind of an introvert, but I had a good time anyway. Mainly we ate, had conversations, sometimes someone commented on the game. And we played Taboo. Some there were more interested in the game than I was.

Not that the video was bad. I think it's very good. Just, some this will be an issue for, some it won't. For me, my idols have been nothing to do with sports.

I don't think anything football related is idolatry, but it can be taken to that extent. Plenty of churches in America tonight hosted a Superbowl party for their evening service. To me, that's a grievous action, a twisted merging of spiritual Israel and Egypt which should never be. I think we should examine ourselves to see if our elation for the game can match our elation for our salvation. Maybe it's a dated notion but I believe we should always keep our worldliness in honest examination. What are we most alive to and what are we dead to.

Not to rain on anyone's parade. I still have parts of the world I dwell in and somewhat prefer over that blessed spiritual wilderness.

The video makes a good point in my opinion. I have no problem with people having fun watching sports, or even dressing up in costumes to go to a game when it's all done in fun. But it's true, for some it becomes an idol.

A few years ago I scheduled a trip to a Christian concert for a church youth group and one of the prominent church parents and mother of several of the youth (they were a foster family, so had several) got all high and mighty, complaining vehemently that I hadn't checked the school sporting schedule first, and how dare I schedule a CHURCH event that interfered with the high school football game! Like I had any control over the date and time of the concert held at one of the area's large churches! She said since it conflicted with school sports I shouldn't have scheduled it at all, and in protest she never let any of her kids attend a youth event again as long as I had anything to do with them. This woman will answer to God one day for her idolatry and for leading her kids into idolatry!

I think as with anything, it all depends upon where your heart is. God desires for us all to enjoy things (although not unholy things), but He does not want those things to come before Him, or be more important than Him. As we seek First the kingdom of God and all His righteousness, all these things will be added unto us. (Mt 6:33) The point as i believe Blake was stating that the things that we enjoy should never be more important than our walk with Christ. Of which i full agree with. :)

Don't get me wrong. Have your football. I'm not saying it is evil. But it has been evil-ized.

Here's another thing I see with the superbowl (and the media in general). What did kids get to witness today?

I posted Leviticus 19:29:

Do not prostitute thy daughter, to cause her to be a whore; lest the land fall to whoredom, and the land become full of wickedness.
Not only in the sex-trafficing link I posted above, but we see in a sense the people prostituting their children. Look how Katy Perry prostitutes herself to the audience singing her song filled with sexual connotations. And as parents let it slide by, they prostitute their children to the wiles of the devil. Look how one prostitutes themselves to the masses. Kids of the masses buy in. They fall to whoredom. The land becomes full of wickedness.

There are other examples of our children being prostituted, such as Planned Parenthood. There's a video that would most likely not be fitting here. Basically it's a compilation of kids going into Planned Parenthood with hidden cameras. They're 15. The adults are recommending sexual practices with the 15yo's boyfriend, telling them to buy sex products, telling them to read adult novels, and telling them a variety of porn sites they can go on.

You know there's a video that I ripped of youtube which exposes the hypersexualization of children. There's a television show where they made these little girls do a dance with these "naked suits" which are skin-tight suits that are skin-coloured. The parents are ok with it. The kids are all uncomfortable as the lady is saying what's gonna happen in the dance routine. And the parents just laugh it off. Yet they have "prostituted their daughters" [for media money] and have caused the land to "fall into whoredom and wickedness".

1) Whoring out children
2) One becomes an example to many
3) Many follow whoredom
4) Whoredom results in depravity

God's word is living. How can we reverse it?

Here's a hard saying:

Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord:
Hebrews 12:14
If we don't follow after holiness, and act in holiness no one will see the Lord in us that we are supposed to be an example of.

The Apostles turned the world upside down. Why can't we turn TV upside down? or off. Make a statement in ratings.

Idolatry is putting anything that's not God above God.

I fully agree! That is why my tv is off a lot! We really mucst be carefully what we entertain in our minds. Basically what we think about a lot is what we are renewing our minds with, and the Bible (God) desires that we not conform to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of our minds with the Word (Romans 12:1-2) thus being something that is reasonable for God to expect or desire.
Blessings to you!

how much ugly stuff is on the internet...better not use the internet...

Yes true, but there are a lot of God centered things that can be attained through the internet. So how about making sure we set our filters to filter out the bad stuff, and not allow the devil keep us from God's good things? :)

The computer is a completely different medium. I have the ability to shut of nasty advertisements. I have access to REAL information. Exposure to garbage on television is going to happen. Exposure to garbage on the Internet is optional. Depending on how the Internet is used, it actually takes thinking. Whereas television puts the user in an alpha state, associated with states of suggestibility and is neurologically similar to staring at walls (by word of scientists).

As I said, we can affect the ratings and set an example. Why not make every step a step to contribute less to the devil and more to God?

Or am I supposed to just be a bystander and allow exposure, and say "heck with it. ugly stuff happens?"

Yup we can,,, i also wish we could protect all the kids who dont live in our hoomes

I believe i saw one of the football players giving Glory to God tonight.:)

Shoot so do I!
But i believe it's part of the devils plan to destroy innocence. And he uses tv and other mediums to do it.

It really gives me a smile when a player give notice to God! I did not watch the game so it is good to hear.

Yea, i guess the players are just doing what they do and enjoy best. Its up to the individual supporter if they worship teams and players like some do. I mean, in the end they just human and good at something they have done most of there life.

I tell you the truth, i have been lucky to have met many famous people, from sports to music, and i tell you many dont want the self glory, they just want to do there best at what they do, the money and fame is a bonus.

God gives us all talents, it's up to us to use them for His glory or not. Many times those talents are things that we enjoy.

I believe that is what the parable of the talents is about (mt 25:20). What would you do with the talents that God gave you

Too bad it's all bread and circus. :dancing

For me I wished that the game was on a Saturday rather than a Sunday! As for church. As it is really the two words churches despise. Really wished that it was on a Saturday. Love the NFL, only sport that I watch!
