The societal role of pregnancy medical clinics has become increasingly vital after the 1973 Supreme Court landmark decision Roe V. Wade. In fact, about 80% of abortion-minded women who visit pregnancy clinics choose life after seeing their child through an ultrasound, yet the pro-abortion culture of the United States criticizes them daily. As believers, we should continually strive to break the notion that the pro-life movement omits the mother in an unplanned pregnancy. One way to do that is through medical clinics that consistently serve and bless expectant women. Here are a few ways to pray for, serve and support them.

Pray

Through the course of daily ministry, medical clinics go through a wide array of hardships and are in constant need of God’s hand over their ministry. In place of prayer over their general work, God calls us to be precise in our requests. In the book of Matthew, he recollects a time in which two blind men ask Jesus for help without specification. Instead of immediate healing, Jesus first asks, “what do you want me to do for you?” It is only after the blind men distinctly plea for Christ to restore their sight that He grants them healing. Similarly, Bartimaeus asks for widespread mercy rather than mitigation of his specific needs in the book of Mark. Jesus tells him the same. God continually reiterates this point throughout the Bible – be specific.

Reach out to a local clinic and ask what their unique needs for divine intervention are. Some have mailing lists and others have text chains; however, there is always a way requests are communicated to constituents. Pray regularly. Pray with two or more (Matt. 18:20). Pray for clients’ hearts to be softened, the staffs’ spirits to strengthen and God’s protection over their critical work in a society that devalues it.

Serve

Centers depend heavily on volunteers from a range of backgrounds. To combat major abortion companies while simultaneously providing free services requires a professional staff, environment and resources. Maintaining that high level of care leaves many gaps for centers in essential areas. This can include client mentorship/advocacy, church liaising, marketing, post-abortive healing and more.

Suppose someone feels they aren’t adequately prepared to serve in that capacity; affiliates from the three major national networks require volunteer training, so most prospective staff are qualified to make a difference in women’s lives, whatever that may look like. Take the next step and bring your God-given talents to a local pregnancy resource center, and they will use them.

Support

Over half a billion dollars of the nation’s largest abortion providers’ revenue comes from government funding. On the other hand, pregnancy centers are left to rely on private donations for over 90% of their budget. It is because of this it’s crucial pro-lifers continue to support local pregnancy medical clinics so they can continue to support families.

Though clinics do need baby supplies, many don’t receive material donations with the mother kept in mind. Consider supporting moms-to-be through maternity clothes, travel vouchers, cleaning services, spa certificates and other gifts. This can include anything that will solidify the truth that she is incredibly valuable, no matter what. There are other ways to support clinics as well: churches hold baby bottle drives, fundraisers and volunteer days. In addition, Focus on the Family has pregnancy resource center grants available for ultrasound machines, pregnancy resources, digital marketing and nurse training. Clinics host annual galas and informative events. As a result, there are so many opportunities to financially, physically and spiritually contribute to these essential medical clinics.

To empower women who are in a fearful and vulnerable position requires action. Thousands of pregnancy centers and medical clinics around the world save lives and substantially impact others. They step out each day against a world that is blind to the value of life. So, it’s clear – pregnancy clinics are fighting on the frontlines of the abortion movement and need us in every aspect. The question is: what will we do about it?

My area had an event to raise awareness for the local CPC. We had a walk. I wore a costume to the event, cuz I figured if the point was to draw attention..... then wearing a costume would draw attention, and when people asked why I was wearing it I could tell them why.
