House Churches More Satisfying to Attenders Than Conventional Churches

A new study from The Barna Group indicates: With the growth of house churches across the country, a new study by The Barna Group sheds light on how these independent, non-denominational churches operate.

Perhaps the most compelling insight from the national study was an evaluation of the levels of satisfaction of those who attend a house church compared with the views of adults who attend a conventional local church. Four aspects of people's church experience were gauged.

Overall, people attending a house church were significantly more likely to be "completely satisfied" with their experience in each of the four dimensions examined. Two-thirds of house church attenders (68%) were "completely satisfied" with the leadership of their church, compared to only half of those attending a conventional church (49%).

:-D Good one Ian - I don't know whether anything but the bible is a 'must read' however I have gotten this book from the library. I'm about 1/4 of the way through and find it VERY thought provoking. :)

Just by the name of the book Mutz, it seems to signify (at least to me) the divisions among the Church. Kinda like, "Hey, don't like it? Start a church of your own..."...
Just my thoughts...

Not so much the divisions amongst the church but the apathy within it. The lukewarmedness. It's enough to make you wanna spew. And starting another church doesn't fix that.

Interesting the link between apathy and lukewarmedness... Where does the author of your book put an over abundance of zeal?

I don't know where he puts it, but I don't rate zeal at all.

We can be zealous for the law, for tradition, for doctrine - in fact we can even be zealous for God as Paul points out, but if our zeal is not based on knowledge then it counts for nothing.

Interesting thought there, Mutz

Worth printing Revelation 3:17-20 as we are in the Laodicean church age

17You say, 'I am rich; I have acquired wealth and do not need a thing.' But you do not realize that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind and naked.

18I counsel you to buy from me gold refined in the fire, so you can become rich; and white clothes to wear, so you can cover your shameful nakedness; and salve to put on your eyes, so you can see.

19Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline. So be earnest, and repent.

20Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me.

What also came to mind is how the Bible says, "Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with your might, as unto the Lord, not unto men"

& how Jesus said that the most important commandment is, "Love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind & all your strength"

Enthusiasm comes from Greek en theos - in God - underlying much Bible encouragement to wholehearted passion for God as the wellspring of life

Must go

I'm not really surprised with that outcome since this is how the body of Christ FIRST started having church. It was in each other's homes. I think we have almost made church too much of a corporate environment these days. Mind you, I have nothing against big local churches considering I attend them 3 days a week.
