"My wounds are foul and festering because of my foolishness." Psalm 38:5
Do you have flies in your house? In the late summer and early fall we have so many flies that we can't keep them out of the house. Every time we open up the door they fly in and we have to continually swat them again and again.
The "my's" of life can be likened to flies in house. Some of the "my's are "my will," "my stuff" and "my attitude." If I'm not diligent to swat them out of my daily life with God's help, I must go on a much more difficult mission: swatting multiple "my's" at a time. Like flies, they like to rest in common places. Like flies, the "my's" come in from the open doors of daily living, or they grow from the "my's" I missed on a previous attempt to reduce their number.
The "my's" of life can be greatly lessened by filling my life with good things from God. If I have surrendered my heart and mind to God, having rejected the rotten, foul-smelling thing of selfishness, there is a much better chance that my mind won't be swarming with "my's." For then my "my's" will be replaced with the mind of Christ.
