Bible Study Swimming in METAPHORS

Jesus is seated at the right hand of God, but God is SPIRIT, and does not LITERALLY have a "right hand".

Simon Peter is not LITERALLY a ROCK, and Jesus is not LITERALLY building a BUILDING, besides, He Himself is the chief cornerstone, and why seek ye the Most High in temples made by man?

"The mouth of the Lord hath spoken it", and He does stuff "at the blast of the breath of his nostrils", but not LITERALLY...

He has "bared his holy arm" in the sight of the heathen...

But God the Father has no arm, nostrils, mouth, right hand - yet we get the message.

METAPHORS apply to us as well, we are given power to become Sons of God, and can be the Bride of Christ, without gender making it have to be one or the other.

I welcome all these METAPHORS, these anthropomorphic comparisons of God the Father whose ways are above our ways, and of God the Son who is truly God and truly Human simultaneously.

At the same time, too!

They are no less REAL because they are METAPHORS.

Stephen actually SAW a vision of Jesus STANDING at the right hand of God when he was stoned. I think Stephen was one of those that Jesus spoke of as " some standing here who will not taste death" til they see the Son of Man coming in power. John also, in vision, saw Christ coming in power in Revelation.

I like metaphors as they bring that which one can't physically see come to life and understanding especially when the Holy Spirit reveals the meaning. I also like the parts where Jesus likened things to other things to express a resemblance like He did in the parables.
