Temptation to get between people and God

One of the greatest temptations of religious living is the urge to intrude between God and other people - Rowan Williams

I didn't always agree with his stance on some issues but he made things make more sense to me than just about anyone in the church.

I completely get what he's saying here. If you look around here and elsewhere, you see lots of "advice" on how to change someone's relationship with God.

My relationship with him is just that, mine. It's unique to me, God knows me better than anyone. I'm on my path and its different to anyone else's. We are not robots or clones

Our human arrogance in believing we know everything about how to relate to God can cause more damage than we realize. In our Methodist church, we have open communion (you don't have to be a member of the church to participate in sharing of the Eucahrist) for this very reason. We dare not come between Christ and those who answer the call to come close to Him. I will kneel trembling at the altar next to anyone who submits to Christ and wants to share in His salvation.

"Christ our Lord invites to his table all who love him, who earnestly repent of their sin, and seek to live in peace with one another. Therefore, let us confess our sin before God and one another."
