has anyone read it? it was my favorite text book from last semester. it's a series of short stories and the social commentary is wicked!

Tofuy,

I saw this book, but did not buy it. I can't remember why. I will look at it again the next time I go to the library or the book store.

And just to clarify...I believe I am reading you right...you mean "wicked" in a slang form like, cool or awesome, right?

not so much cool/awesome but yes. he has some very controversial thinking in it. i don't think it deals with religion directly and there are no religious references. it's more about the social comentary which is increadibly challenging. to express this social commentary, sherman alexie uses the relationships between people as examples. get through the first story, it's the longest, and they will all be worth your time reading.

here are examples:
2 of the short stories deal with post-9/11 issues. the idea of "what is terror" is examined in some very radical ways. as a new yorker, i felt he delt with the issues respectfuly and it's the first time i've wanted to read any fiction or social commentary on the issue.
one short story is about a couple who's infant is in intensive care from an accident with a bad crib. this is a reference to the poverty of some tribes and an explination of how to deal with the unfortunate. when something so awful and all-consuming as the possible death of your new baby happens, how can you see things in your life "normaly"? should you? this story was my favorite one.

if you're a member of a book club, i suggest this book. if you like reading short stories, i suggest this book. if you like reading "a good read", i suggest this book. if you pick it up at the book store, let me know! i have some notes i made and i'll post them to help make the reading a little more interesting.
