In the new testament Jesus asks one of his disciples if they love him to which they say they do and then Jesus responds by saying "tend my sheep" and then "feed my sheep", etc.

I interpreted this as a metaphor meaning that if they loved Jesus then they should teach Jesus's teachings to other people to carry spread the good news about God.

Just thought I would ask around to see what you guys think.

That, and I think it might entail a bit more. Like watching out for their welfare.
 
Hi Dan, yes, what you are saying is good.
The disciples would be the leaders when Jesus left them.
He wanted everyone taken care of and fed the Word of God.
And they did just that as we read in the Book of Acts.
