Terrible news stories and the people who watch them...

Is it selfish to watch the tragic news stories, yet do nothing about any of them? I wonder if people do this to unknowingly balance something that is missing in their own life. I know people that can't turn away from this stuff, yet their life does not change one bit. They make no effort to help the suffering they watch, though they feel so sad for such and such, or offended by so and so. I wonder if this other's tragedy has become our entertainment.

I have no intention of trivializing the sad stories heard on the news circuits. They are sad stories indeed.

Remember the fiery Kony 2012 campaign? The people of Uganda, who it was supposed to help, thought it was a joke from the outset.

And now, so does the rest of the planet, it seems.

Personally, I dont watch or listen to stories about evil or evildoers. The exception is fictional cop stories in which th good guys win. As a nurse who has worked in hospitals I could do something to alieve suffering. I have also done grief counseling. But in situations in which There is little that I can do, I choose to obey Phil. and dwell on things that are of good report.

I see people I know personally on facebook take up the causes of less fortunate people.
This is good.
But some of them do so just to let you know that they did something about it.
They want recognition for doing good.
I suppose that's better than doing nothing at all.

The Kony 2012 campaign was a scam. The man was already dead. a Black Ugandan Norwegian woman even wrote an article about it. The Campaign was also done in order to demonize the christian people of Uganda.

If you donated money to this organization then you got scammed...

This is also the reason I don't have cable. The only News Agency I watch is CBN news through their own streaming site, I trust them and they also help the people they show through Operation Blessing. As a 700club member I know that my money is one part of the machinery that brings charity and much needed help to the people that are suffering. CBN also show good news, and small people doing their best for God to bring his word to the people.
