The Agony of Jesus Christ Becoming Sin
People often wonder if Jesus Christ actually became sin for us on the cross. This fact can easily be gleamed from the bible. When man sinned in the Garden of Eden the penalty was death. Therefore when God became man in the person of Jesus Christ he was sinless and wasn't under this penalty of death. Jesus Christ could have lived on this earth forever!
For the sinless Jesus Christ to die on the cross Christ must first become sin which would then invoke the same penalty of sin as all of mankind, which is death. The sinless Jesus Christ had to become sin first in order for death to ever be possible.
This simple fact that Jesus Christ becoming sin on the cross in order to take upon himself our penalty of death is born out in the last utterances of Christ on the cross. During all of Jesus Christ's ministry he spoke of God the Father first and never spoke of his own cares or the desires of his own flesh.
Throughout his ministry Jesus Christ's whole attention was on glorifying God the Father. But on the cross when Jesus Christ became sin for us he began to speak of his own cares and desires of the flesh. He began to use personal pronouns of I, and me, signifying that he was now separated from God the Father because of sin.
After Jesus Christ became sin on the cross his attention turned inward towards himself rather than outward towards God the Father. At that moment Jesus Christ became sin like all of mankind. But whereas man became sin because of his disobedience, Jesus Christ became sin because of his obedience.
Jesus Christ turned man's disobedient act in the Garden of Eden into an obedient act on the cross. Jesus Christ's death no longer signified a penalty of disobedience but an act of restorative forgiveness. It is as if God spoke to Adam and Eve after they had sinned and said to them, 'go and eat of the fruit of the tree of life (Jesus Christ) and gain life eternal with me through death.' Death for the unbeliever is still separation from God in hell but for those who have a belief in Jesus Christ death is now changed and becomes a reunification with God in heaven.
It should be noted that when Peter denied Jesus Christ three times as the cock crowed Peter was in fact experiencing the agony of Jesus Christ on the cross. For when God the Father had to forsake his own son after he became sin on the cross Jesus Christ called out to God the Father three times in agony and was denied any response.
Just think - Jesus Christ spoke NOTHING while he was being tortured just before his crucifixion. Only when Jesus Christ became sin and was cut off from God the Father on the cross did Jesus Christ call out in any agony. Jesus Christ showed that life without God the Father is far more painful than any suffering due to our own infirmities! This fact alone should scare anyone into believing in the forgiveness offer by Jesus Christ for without it we will never be reunited with the love and comfort of God the Father in heaven.
Please! Believe in the saving grace and mercy of Jesus Christ and gain the forgiveness of your sins and receive the indwelling Holy Spirit that will give you true inner peace to endure all the hardships of this world!
God Bless
