In 1859 a Jewish scholar, Benedict Zuckermann published a table of sabbatical years in ancient times. He based his conclusions on a variety of sources such as the book of Maccabees and Josephus. In one example he cites an exemption Alexander the Great granted Jews concerning payment of tax every seventh year. Apparently it occurred once at the time Alexander conquered Gaza. With examples like this Zuckermann charted the seven year cycle. (Shmita)

Like Zuckermanns earlier work, ‘The Atonement Clock’ deals with the Sabbatic/Jubilee countdown. But new information (archaeology and astronomy) reveals a stunning convergence of data to Messiah, Jesus of Nazereth. The Jubilee (Yovel) was not lost as previously supposed. Christian Gedge doesn’t pretend to be Jewish but Im sure that Messianic believers and Christians alike would get a lot from reading this book.

The book does not claim to project the Sabatical/Jubilee years to establish any end time theory. It uses a commonsense approach. I must confess, if I were to get such a book, I am guilty of that 'sin' of wanting to know end times. I appreciated their honesty about that.

The apocryphal book of Jubilees sorts significant events in terms of Jubilees (hence the name). Besides the yearly calendar of feasts, many groups have attempted over the years to reestablish the Sabbath and Jubilee cycle for the very reason of end times. Needless to say, I never find any two that totally agree, and as much as I am into calendars, feasts, sundials and so forth (which are defined astronomically), I won't even pretend to know what year is what (which are defined by counting only). That's because these numbers are not astronomical in nature, but simply a counting system, like counting the days of the week. Lose count and it's hard to pick up where they left off.

As the book (and others) suggest, the only way to reestablish this count is to compare a supposedly known year number to a known historical event. But even with history nobody agrees to the exact year.

Yes I remember talking about this awhile back on my previous post. I'll buy it soon. I placed it on my Amazon "wish list" as I put several items on there to qualify for free shipping.

Larger format, together with more detailed diagrams and expanded appendix articles, makes the 'Scholars Edition' ideal for critical examination of some of the finer points. Of special interest will be the additional chapter explaining how the Ancient Hebrew Calendar was different (very different) to the modern Jewish one. It has serious implication for modern 'experts' who doubt the early historicity of Israel.
